After days of endless classes, guys still not used to me being in the room, I was ready for Friday. Some boys didn't care. Some boys treated me like a rag doll, grabbing me. There was one group of guys in particular, one that Joey told me to stay away from, that would cat call and stare at me 24/7. One of the reasons I was ready for Friday, apart from it being the last day of the school week, was because I got to swim. Finally, something to get my mind off of my current situation, my life. The water is one of the only places I feel completely calm. I swear I was a mermaid in a former life.
I exited the girls bathroom, in a navy blue one piece and towel to cover the body I'm insanely insecure about. Sure I'm insecure, but I know I've got a decent body and I'm not complaining. Still, we all have our faults.
As I had to travel from one of two girls bathrooms in the entire school, I was late to the lesson and so walked in to the pool room alone, a bunch of shirtless guys in their swim suits turned to the noise of a creaky door and stared at me. Oh don't they love to stare!
"Alright boys- I mean class, let's start some free style races, who would like to go first?" The swimming instructor, a medium height muscly man called the group to order.
No one put their hand up so,"I'll go." Once again all the boys stared at me. The teacher proceeded to choose 4 other boys as no one wanted to verse me, whether they were scared they would lose or that they would beat me and I'd cry or something, I don't know.
We lined up at each podium and I threw my towel to the side, I heard some awkward shuffling and one guy wolf whistled. Seriously, the nerve! Like they've never seen a pretty girl before. These are meant to be well behaved young men, paying thousands to board here, and yet they some act like animals.
The race began and I glided through the water, just a simple 100 metre race. I expected to pop up 3rd, maybe 2nd. But when I touched the wall and raised my head above the water I was 1st!
"Wow Sophie! A new school record that is amazing!" Mr McAuley boasted.
"Thanks." I blushed and started drying off.
Other races began, I sat on the side lines to rest, I hadn't swam like that in a while.
"That was impressive you know." A dirt blonde haired boy with dark brown eyes approached me and sat down. I recognised him as one of the boys from the group that never failed to offend me whenever I walked by.
I gave him a small smile, "Thanks."
"So, I was wondering if-"
"No sorry, I'm not interested."
"Woah come on you don't even know what I was gonna ask!"
"Yeah, you're gonna ask me out for tomorrow night, and honestly by the friends you hang out with, the way you probably act with those mutts, it's a no from me, sorry." I wasn't going to beat around the bush here. Sure this guys cute, and the fact that he's shirtless doesn't help, but his friends are dicks and he is probably the same. His dark eyes are also unnerving, like devilish or something.
"Alright so maybe you did know... I know my friends are dicks and I'm not okay with how they treat you I'm just pressured into it-"
"Yeah that's total bullshit." I said bluntly, why didn't this guy just leave me alone.
"Look, I think you're really gorgeous ok? I'm not kidding around here, my friends would probably take the shit out of me for even just working up the courage to ask you."
"I've got homework"
"Really? Because I'm in a few of your classes and you always get the work done, and the homework, cos you don't talk to anyone."
"Yeah cause my only choice is to talk to guys like you." Biting back felt so unusual.
"Is talking to me really so bad?" The question hung in the air for a moment. "One night, a few hours, dinner, maybe some dancing, I'll treat you."
"... Fine, meet me at my door at 7." I gave in, he wasn't that bad I guess, and at the very least I could have some fun, even if this guy is friend's with dick heads.
"Great!" He got up and started to put his shirt and tie back on. "I'm Seth by the way. I'll see you at 7 tomorrow night!" He walked off with a swing in his step. Am I really such a catch? Let's be honest, for all the straight guys here, I'm their only option.
// Joe's POV
Sophie entered our room, grinning to herself, she actually looked happy for the first time in a while. I mean I'd done my best to make sure she was all good throughout this past week, and we've definitely had some good laughs but I haven't seen her happy for herself yet.
"What's up with you smiley?" I asked playfully.
"Well... I've got a date tomorrow night." She said, while putting away some maths books.
Are you kidding me? A date! It's only been a week, I mean who wouldn't want to date her but still. She's told me about how inconsiderate some guys are being and now she's gonna go on a date with one!
I tried to play it cool, "Oh yeah, who with?"
"This guy called Seth, blonde hair, average height, you know him?"
"Are you serious? Seth is part of that group of dicks that you always say you hate!"
"Yeah but it should be fine, right? I mean I haven't been on a date in a while and it'll be nice to dress up and have some fun." I couldn't believe she was choosing Seth.
"Okay then, I'm sure it'll be fine." I said, gritting my teeth. "Just make sure if anything bad happens you tell me ok?"
"Alright dad! Calm down I can handle myself but thank you for your help. Now, skirt or jeans?" She asked, holding up a brown skirt in one hand and black skinny jeans in the other.
"Definitely the skirt. You'll look great." I said half heartedly, not that it wasn't true, she always looks great.
