When Mom went into labor on a Sunday afternoon, Dad had to take her to the hospital. Lily and I both wanted to go, too, but Dad told us we'd be better off at home. We were upset at first, but he promised that he'd send for us once the baby was born.

He left us under the care of our neighbor, a friendly, kind man named Ray. Ray had babysat us a few times before. He made us popcorn, and we watched Bambi, which was my favorite movie.

After a while, Lily and I both relaxed enough to focus on the movie, but my ghost couldn't. He kept pacing, back and forth down the hallway.

After about twenty minutes of this, I got up and excused myself to go to the bathroom and went down the hallway after him.

"Why are you so worried?" I whispered harshly. He stopped pacing once he saw me, but I could still see the anxiety in his eyes. "You're acting like it's your baby or something."

Gerard looked a little hurt, and I immediately felt bad. "It's my job to take care of the baby, just like it's my job to take care of you and Lily."

"But why?"

Before I could get an answer, Ray called me from the living room. "Cherry, your dad just called. Your mom's had the baby!"
