recovery and victory

I gasp as i sat upright, breathing heavily, slightly wincing in pain. Looking down i saw stitches on my side, which went down to my hip, gulping down my hiss of pain.

“ oh thank god you’re ok,” i look over to see ellie as she smiled at me.

“ how long have i been asleep?” i asked her.

“ two days at the least,” she smiles.

I looked down, and saw koba fast asleep next to me, his arms wrapped around me protectively. Heat quickly rose to my cheeks, and i could hear ellie softly giggling, which woke koba from his slumber. He soon noticed that i was awake, and held me in a tight embrace, a small grunt escaping his lips.

“ koba,” i smiled and hugged him back.

He stops as our eyes meet, and i felt his hand pull me towards him, placing our foreheads together. Suddenly feeling like i couldn’t breath, heart suddenly racing as he held us in this position, i couldn’t help but smile.

The moment was ruined when someone cleared their throat, and we look over to see malcolm, as he was waiting at the entrance of the hut.

“ hi dad,” i smiled when i saw his eyes grow wide in shock.

“ but how?” he asks in disbelief.

“ mom told me before she died,” i smiled as he came over to sit by the nest.

He gives a small laugh, and i grin at him, before he pulls me into a hug. We suddenly hear koba growl in disapproval, and dad quickly let me go, as he stands to his feet.

“ does he make you happy?” he suddenly asks and i blush again.

“ yes, he knows me just as i know him,” i said as i turn to koba now.

He gives a small huff, wrapping an arm around me, as i turn back to dad. He gave a small nod of approval, as he leaves the hut, ellie following right behind him.

With koba’s help, i was able to walk out of the hut, only to be attacked in a hug by haze. He was shaking with worry, and guilt washed over me as i heard him whimper, and hugged him back to calm him down. I saw caesar and his family walk behind haze, as cornelia held both cornelius and milo, who were held snug within her arms. Blue eyes and rocket stood opposite of the king and queen, as they gave me a small smile, as haze let me go from his embrace.

“ i am sorry that i worried you all,” i sadly apologized.

‘ at least you survived,’ signs cornelia as she smiles at me.

“ koba stayed by your side. Waiting for you to awaken,” says caesar with a small smirk.

I heard koba growl playfully at caesar, and smiled at the king, as i felt an arm around my waist. Milo slowly opened his eyes, and once his eyes saw me, he immediately started reaching for me. Laughing at the little orangutan’s action, i scooped him in my arms, as he held his arms around my neck.

“ beth,” i then heard and looked behind caesar.

“ devan?!” i gasped in shock.

He grins at me, until i saw the same brunette little girl, running at full speed towards me.

“ auntie beth,” she squeals as she hugs my waist.

“ sam,” i smiled at her wrapping my free arm around her to hug her back.

“ there’s something we have to tell you,” said fang.

“ what is it?” i asked looking at him.

“ the humans are coming here,” said devan, “ they plan on killing all the apes to get to you.”

My stomach dropped, as i turned to caesar and the others, as they had the same expression as me.

We told ellie and dad to keep the females and children in the colony, as we waited at the humans to show themselves, i stood beside koba and caesar. Koba had advised me to stay in the colony, but i sadly declined him, i couldn’t bare to let him die for me.

Koba and the males wore their war paint, fang and devan stood on either side of me, as they were in their wolf form. I jumped as i heard the sounds of trucks, and froze when a woman walked towards us, a cold menacing smile on her face as she saw me.

“ ah beth, it’s so good to see you again,” she says in a cheery tone.

I glare at her, and she only keeps smiling at me, until her cold brown eyes land on koba.

“ oh and you also found subject five, how wonderful,” she giggles.

Devan growls at her, and she looks back at me, her smile suddenly vanishing.

“ now here is a special deal, come with me quietly and no one has to die.”

“ you know as well as i do how this will end,” i state calmly to her.

She laugh, pulling out her handgun, pointing towards koba and caesar. Devan and fang continue to growl at her, both ready to attack her, but i quickly stop them.

“ oh so you care for one of them,” she laughs with a smirk, “ this should be more interesting.”

I slowly start walking over to her, ignoring koba and caesar, as they were trying to keep me still.

I stood before her, blocking her view of the apes, the gun close to my chest.

“ you’re just like your mother, you’re weak,” she taunts.

“ at least i’m not a coward,” i retort.

That set her off immediately, as she attempts to shoot me, but i move out of the way. I kicked the gun out of her hand when i had the chance, and we were soon fighting hand to hand, yet she was winning.

She suddenly cuts my arm, and i grunt staggering back, as she smiling at me.

“ you remember the story correct?” she asks with a taunting voice.

I suddenly hear worried hoots, and turned to see blue eyes and haze attempt to come assist, but i shook my head to them. Turning to becky, i saw her still standing, but noticed her wiping her nose away.

‘ could it be,’ i thought and ran at her pushing her back.

“ i tell you now the words of red moon,” i began glaring at her, “ from the great spirit was born the wolf and man became it’s messenger. The beast lives his life in silence. Abiding where the blessings of the blood of the gods is bestowed upon him. The white flower, after winning the favor of the lord of the night, will share her scent. preordained and eternal in countenance, her form is of a lily white, supple maiden. She distills and condenses all of time, until it becomes a precious frozen mass. Only than will appear the wretched beast.”

She coughs nodding, and i slowly walk over to her, and i could see blood dripping down her arm.

“ you’re dying,” i stated and she looks at me in shock, “ you wanted to open the gates before the sickness spreads through your body.”

Her eyes held anger and stubbornness, but her coughs were all the answer i needed, “ you used the untested antidote on yourself?”

Again she coughed, “ that antidote is a poison, and now it is within you,” i sighed sadly.

She moves her hand away from her mouth, “ please kill me, end my suffering now,” she pleads. I shook my head, and she kept pleading, and suddenly a hand moves to cover my eyes.

The sound of teeth against flesh reach my ears, and i close my eyes, turning to face who had covered my eyes.

When i saw koba’s single green eye, my breath was caught in my throat, as i hugged him. And i silently sobbed into his chest, the war was over at last.
