Dave stuck close to me as we hopped up the stairs towards the usual hang out spot Jack and I would go to if we ditched class. Winter was beginning to warm up and spring was well on its way, but it still wasn't warm enough to just sit around in the courtyard like we used to do.

"Do you guys always cut class?" he asked, as we neared the roof.

I shrugged my shoulders. "Sometimes, but we can only get away with it because we copy Jaime's notes. His notes are literally better than the teacher's own guide."

Dave raised his eyebrows. "Wow," he said surprisingly.

At the top of the staircase, there sitting - just as I had suspected - was Jack and Alex. I knew if I wasn't there, Alex had no reason to be in the class and Jack had no one nagging him to be there, either.

"It's about time you showed up," Alex teased, his eyes shifting between Dave and I. "What was the hold up?"

"Well, one, I was late and, second, I caught Tony talking to Dave," I explained. Jack suddenly stood up now, walking into the group. When it involved me, it was one thing, but when it involved his initiate into the group it was now directly related to him.

"You've got to be kidding me," Alex muttered, looking down.

"He needs to back off, and he needs to do it now," Jack huffed, clenching one of his hands into a fist.

"What was he saying?" Alex asked.

"Just the same things he says to me," I explained. "The point of the matter is, is that they're not just going after me now; they're going after any new members of the Trouble-Makers who they don't think have any loyalty yet."

Jack's gaze intensified with anger and he looked away from us while Alex furrowed his brow out of frustration. Of course, the Clique has always been a pain to the crew, but now they were really trying to infiltrate it.

"What do you think of this, Dave?" Alex asked, turning his gaze to the initiate.

Dave shook his head. "You kidding me? I think it's ridiculous. I haven't said two words to any of them until today, and now they're suddenly acting like they know me and that I have some sort of ties with them rather than you guys. They don't sit well with me."

"Good man," Jack said, slapping Dave's shoulder affectionately.

I walked among the school hallways by myself. It was after school and I had yet to go to my locker, but I knew Alex or at least one of the guys would be waiting for me there, so I knew I couldn't go there just yet. Soon, Alex would wonder where I was at and come looking for me, so I needed to hurry and be fast.

Quickly scanning the hallways, I nearly raced down every one and could not find what I was looking for. When I was growing near to quitting, I walked past the cafeteria where I finally heard the familiar voice.

"...the football team is going to suck without you, man! When we leave this place, the football team isn't going to be the same!" Kellin's voice said from inside the lunch room.

"They'll do fine," Zack replied, a small chuckle escaping his lips. I ground my teeth together; even hearing his voice brought back feelings of betrayal he gave me.

"You kidding me? More like the cheerleaders are going to suffer," Nicki's nasely voice complained as she smacked her gum.

I took a deep breath before walking into the cafeteria myself, only to find it was just those three talking as the group. The tables were already cleaned up and the chairs were sitting up on top of them. I had no idea why or how they ended up talking here, but I wasn't about to question it for a moment longer.
