Forgotten

Luke:

Sitting in the restaurant, you twirled the fork around in your fingers. You could practically hear your mother scolding you for your terrible table manners. But it didn’t really matter, because there was no one around to see them. Checking your phone for what seemed like the thousandth time, your heart fell at the blank screen. The dim lighting of the restaurant was somehow making you feel more depressed at the fact that your boyfriend had apparently forgotten about you. It was just a date, but somehow it felt like more to you. The two of you were having trouble communicating lately. You had it pegged down to the fact that Luke was so busy. When you had started dating, you knew just how hard this rock star life was going to be. Tonight had been booked for weeks in advance. It was supposed to be perfect. Somehow, you had it decided in your mind that tonight would make everything okay again. That it would be a time that just the two of you could spend together. Standing up suddenly, you shoved your phone in your bag, not wanting to know how late it was. You left a large amount of cash on the table, as an apology to the restaurant for sitting at their table for so long. Bursting out into the street, the cold hit you like a ton of bricks. Walking briskly to down the sidewalk, you put your hands over your ears as a way to keep out the wind. Reaching your car, you collapsed into the front seat, and quickly pulled out your phone as you waited for it to warm up. “I know you’re busy, but I waited for you for 3 hours. I’m staying somewhere else tonight. I’ll talk to you in the morning.”  You sent the text without thinking, and quickly pulled out of the parking lot.

Calum:

When you woke up, you were giddy with excitement. It was pathetic really, but when it came to your birthday, you were like an overexcited 6 year old. When you were little, your parent’s used to argue constantly. But somehow, every year on your birthday they managed to pretend that everything was okay, just for the day. As you walked into the kitchen, Calum was sitting at the table, chugging back a glass of orange juice, in front of an empty plate. When he spotted you over his glass, he smiled, and quickly kissed your cheek with a mouthful of juice. “I’ll see you later babe, lot’s of studio stuff. Love you, have a good day.” Without waiting for a response, he quickly breezed past you, and you heard the front door slam shut. Your mouth hung open as you stared at the empty room. You had literally talked about you birthday only a couple weeks earlier. Shaking your head, you went to the cupboard and made yourself a cup of your favourite tea, before wandering back to your bedroom. Quickly, you got dressed, before downing the rest of your cooling mug. Grabbing the rest of your things from the living room, you took off into the street, trying to pretend that it didn’t bother you. With all the work he had been doing recently, you thought he would at least try to make an effort to remember your birthday.

Michael:

As soon as you stepped off the plane, you were absolutely exhausted. You hated flying, you did not like the idea of so many people packed into such a small space. When you walked into the arrival area, you stood on the tips of your toes, looking for a familiar mop of brightly coloured hair. You couldn’t imagine it would be hard to miss. Several people began to wander past you as you continued to look for your boyfriend. The floor was almost empty before you thought to actually wander to baggage claim. Maybe you were just going to meet him outside? As you stood by the carousel, one eye was watching for your suitcase, while the other was watching the doors and looking around you. When your bag finally made it’s way to your spot, you dragged it out to the front of the airport, and you positioned yourself on one of the benches. You had no phone, as you couldn’t afford to use it in America. Your small bag sat beside you, as you prayed that your boyfriend would actually show up. You wouldn’t care if he had forgotten, just as long as he didn’t leave you waiting by yourself for too long. Time began to drag on and your heart started to drop further into your chest. You couldn’t remember how many flights you had watched retrieve their bags. The light was starting to fade from the sky, and you were still sitting alone. Standing up, you had enough of sitting on the uncomfortably hard bench. You were absolutely starving, and you felt as if you were about to pass out from the exhaustion. Calling a taxi, you gave him the name of the hotel, before resting your head against the cool window. He had forgotten you, at the airport, by yourself.

Ashton:

Today was your anniversary. You and Ashton have been together for three years, and you couldn’t be happier. It was ridiculous how much being in love changes everything. This year, Ashton was on tour. It kind of broke your heart a bit, but you were so proud of everything he was doing, that you couldn’t find the energy to care. When you woke up, you immediately checked your phone for a message from your boyfriend. With the sight of the blank phone, you weren’t too bothered. The time zones were difficult, and you could only imagine he was busy today, just like the other days. The rest of the day passed slowly, spent with you constantly checking your phone, and attempting to distract yourself. By now, you had expected at least the smallest bit of recognition from him. Fans had been tweeting their congratulations to the two of you the entire day. It seemed as if everyone else had found time to remember, but him. By the time the clocked rolled around to eleven o’clock at night, your anniversary had well past in whatever country he was in. You could only stare at your phone, as you forced yourself to stay awake. At 11:57, you opened your phone and sent him a quick text, before collapsing on your bed in exhaustion and sadness. Happy anniversary xoxo. Somehow, you had never felt farther away from him.
