I went home after work, sitting down on the couch and putting my headphones in. I pulled out the homework I had completely lied about finishing yesterday because I was busy cuddling with Luke. It was Sunday, so I had to finish it before school tomorrow because it would be due. The clock on the living room wall read 9:00. I had worked the complete early, day, and evening shifts because I was trying to get some money to buy Olivia Arctic Monkeys tickets for her birthday. I clicked on a playlist and turned up the volume, focusing on writing my lit essay. Sex by the 1975 blasted in my ears and I got into it quickly, using a heavy accent (as per usual) to sing along.
"She's got a boyfriend anyways,
She's got a boyfriend anyways"
I wrote a couple lines of the essay.
"We might as well just fuck, she's got a-"
"Well if you say so," a deep voice muttered in my ear. I screamed, falling off the couch and landing quite unceremoniously on the carpet.
"Fucking Luke! Why do we always meet like that?! How the hell did you get in? Ah, shit, Luke you gave a fucking heart attack!"
He laughed, picking me up and placing me on his lap.
"You left your extra key at my house. I promise I didn't steal Olivia's."
I wrapped my hands around his neck, placing my head on his shoulder and carefully adjusting my face so my nose wouldn't hurt as bad. I thought about what we were doing for a second. We'd only been together for just over a day. Normal people might be texting or holding hands, maybe the first kiss. I'd already made out with him, cuddled him in a baggy tank top with practically no pants, seen him shirtless, and now he had me sat on his lap. We acted as though we've been dating for a year. For a second, I started to think about telling him we were taking it too fast. But then I realised that we had taken so much time yearning for each other, the past few years were our awkward stage. I smiled into his neck.
"I was serious." He whispered, breaking the silence and nibbling on my earlobe. I leaned back, raising my eyebrows.
"Sorry babe," I said, winking and leaning back, "You," I poked his chest accusingly, "haven't even taking me on a date yet."
"Well then. How about now?"
I gave him an exasperated look and shot him an eye roll. "Luke, I have an essay-that I haven't started at all because you've been distracting me all weekend-due tomorrow."
He smiled, "So I'll stay here with you and help, and it can be our unofficial, non-date first date." I looked at him, his deep dimples telling me to listen.
I nodded, putting my headphones back in and turning Sex back on where I paused it. I started writing again, trying to stop myself from looking at Luke. But he wrapped his arms around my waist, resting his head on my shoulder and sitting with his legs crossed around my torso.
"Luke, what the fuck, am I doing homework or giving you a piggy back ride."
"I dunno." He said, but I couldn't hear him through the music. I let him stay there, glad I had the headphones to block out his breathing, and turned back to my paper. But soon after, he was pulling out one ear of my headphones. I turned to glare at him, but I couldn't resist his pouting lips.
"What?" I sighed.
"You can't hear me with those things."
"So? You can't distract me."
He groaned, rolling off of me and the couch. "I'm getting food. You're mean,"
I giggled as he pouted and huffed, crossing his arms and walking into the kitchen. He returned soon after with a piece of cake in hand.
"Alright, Luke, I'm halfway done. You keep yourself occupied with that cake."
He looked at me, his blue eyes serious. "Oh, this isn't for me. I also, surprisingly, have a sweet side to me." He took a forkful of the cake and motioned for me to open my mouth. He fed me the bite and I blushed.
"You're adorable."
"Nuh-uh! I'm a manly man that's also a good boyfriend."
I laughed. "Fine. You're my adorable manly man." He looked down at me, smiling.
"Close enough."
"Well," I muttered after Luke fed me another bite, "I'm not mean enough to put the headphones back in so I guess you'll just have to sing."
He looked at me, not sure if I was serious.
"I told you before the cereal party that you owed me a concert."
He laughed, starting to sing as he fed me cake and I wrote.
