Chapter 15

**halfway through the car ride**
Althea's POV:

I slept for about half the car ride really, Andrea woke me up within half an hour in through the whole drive. I don't know why she woke me up, but she just did. Then I couldn't fall back asleep,
"When's the next gas station stop?" Hayes asked Anna,
"Literally 5 minutes from now, why?" she said, as she jotted down more notes on a notebook. I still had no clue of what she was writing down every 10 seconds.

"Cause I gotta take a piss" Hayes said,
"Ugh Hayes, you really don't have to tell us" I said, nudging him.
"I can't help it" he said, as he let out a little laugh.

I opened a new water bottle and started drinking from it, making sure hayes could hear the water trickling.
"Stop that! Do you really want me to piss In the car??" Hayes yelled, we all laughed,

"HEY HEY! No piss in the car grier!" Jeff yelled, as he kept focus on the road

I continued on drinking the water, making the loudest sounds possible. "Althea!" Hayes yelled,
It was basically like that for the past 5 minutes, teasing Hayes and all.

"Turn here" Anna said, as she pointed towards a little gas station stop.
"Do we need to get gas?" Andrea asked.
"Nawh, this car could run another 50 miles even with an empty tank" Jeff said, tapping the steering wheel
"Sureee" we all said sarcastically.

We all got out of the car except Anna, she was double checking all the equipment and bags and such. We went inside the little store that gas stations always had.
"Where you guys going?" Jeff asked Andrea and I,
"To the bathroom" I replied,
"Fine, meet us back at the car in at least 10 minutes. We gotta get to the location before sundown." Jeff replied,
"Fine mom" I said, as Andrea and I both went into the bathroom.

We did the typical girl stuff, go to the bathroom, check your hair, all that stuff. I washed my hands before i left before Andrea,

"Andrea? Ready?"
"Yeah. But wait" she said pulling me back in front of the mirror and staring at me
"What??" I asked.
"Here." She said. as she handed me a tube of lipstick.
I rolled my eyes at her, "and WHAT exactly am I going to do with this?" I asked her,
She gave me a look, "well it's obvious. I saw the way Hayes was looking at you. He was specifically looking at your lips. And I'm pretty sure you and Hayes will-"

I scoffed cutting her off, "fine whatever, not like I'll use this anyways. Now let's g-"
"No! Try it on first!"
"Andrea! Are you-" I whined,
"YES! Now put it on!"
I gave in, and opened the tube of lipgloss and applied it to my lips.

Hayes's POV:

After I came out of the men's washroom I saw Jeff, he was hanging by the counter. Buying a few things. He had his back towards me,
"Jeff" I tapped him on the shoulder,
"Jesus, you scared me" he said. He was right though, his eyes were wide.
"Why?" I asked,
"Cause man.."
"What?"
Jeff took the plastic bag filled with food and a few more water bottles, but he had something in his hand.
"Just come with me, let's go outside by the car first"
"Fine"
We walked out the gas station store and stood behind the car where you wouldn't be able to see us if you were in the store.
"here" he said,

He handed me something in a small little plastic,

A condom.

I gave him a look, "Jeff, seriously?"
"Don't act like you don't want it" he replied.
I felt my cheeks flush
"What about the whole, losing your virginity to 'someone special' talk the other day with chandler?"
"I know. And I know you found your someone special" he said,
"What are you-?"
"Althea, you idiot. I see the way you look at her. There's something in that look of yours. And Even earlier today ,you eyed her from head to toe"
I felt like I was blushing more, my cheeks burning with embarrassment, Jeff was right.

He was always right.

I sighed, "look, maybe I-"
"Hey Guys" Althea and Andrea said behind us,
"WHAT. HUH. OH HI" Jeff yelled, we both jumped in surprise. Luckily I was able to hide the condom behind me and slide it in my back pocket.

I didn't need Althea seeing that.

Not yet anyways.

That sounded a lot more sexual that I expected it to be.

"So shouldn't we get going?" Andrea asked,
Jeff and I both looked at each other, both of us still startled, my heart felt like it jumped out of my chest.
"Yeah. Uh let's go" I said,
"UM YEAH" Jeff replied, quickly getting into the van.

We got back into our seats from before. Anna and Jeff argued over directions, and Andrea fell asleep listening to music from her headphones. So it was mostly silence between Althea and I.

I took the chance to put my arm around her, not making it so obvious like those cheesy movie scenes. But gently sliding my arm around her,

She looked at me and smiled, I realized her lips looked like they were shining more than usual, probably lipgloss or something, I don't think she really needed it though. I bit my lip to resist the urge of wanting to press my lips against hers. I smiled back.

And then she slid her hand onto my thigh, letting it sit there. It was mostly like that for the whole ride and sometimes my arm felt like it was about to fall off

But I wasn't complaining.
