It's another dark, silent night in the back room of the third floor science lab. I lay on the floor and watch the moonlight bounce off the microscopes lining the shelves along the wall. Do they need that many?
"Hey, Kennedy?" Wilson's voice breaks the silence, coated in an audible layer of nerves.
"Yeah?"
Wilson takes a breath. "Could you give me some advice? You know, for Willnia?"
I turn my head to look at him in surprise. "So you really do like her. A lot, to be talking to me about it. Well, what do you need help with?"
"I...I want to be with her."
"Woah, really? You've known her two days!"
"I know, but I feel we've got something really special. Something no one's ever experienced before."
"It's that 'love at first sight' stuff, isn't it?"
"I don't know. It certainly feels that way."
I consider some things to say. "Well, if you wanna be with her, you gotta get her to wanna be with you. And to do that, you gotta get her to like you as much as you like her."
"How the heck do I do that?"
"Just keep doing what you're doing. It seems to be working just fine so far. Try to throw in some risky moves, like the accidental hand touch, or the classic yawn and stretch, wrapping your arm around her shoulders in the ultimate schmoozing move."
Wilson looks at me skeptically. "Schmoozing?"
"Just trust me on this. I'm the expert." I say, crossing my arms over my chest confidently.
"Says the one who's only had one boyfriend."
"Having multiple partners just makes you worse, because that means those people thought you were crappy and left, leaving you to get a new partner. Several partners means you've had to do that before, many times."
"Don't get all technical." Wilson whines.
"Don't get all cocky." I fire back. Wilson glares at me for a moment, most likely mentally strangling me.
"Whatever." he exhales as he looks down at his hands, folded in his lap.
We're quiet for a while, me still laying on the floor and Wilson adjusting himself so that he's sitting with his legs crisscrossed. He leans back on his hands.
"Do you think we'll ever be able to get back home?" I ask in a small voice. "They don't have the chemicals we need here. They used them all in the experiment from Science class, since they did the same thing."
"We'll get home somehow. We'll just have to find another way." Wilson reassures me.
"I miss Kasey, and Robyn, and Kyle..." I trail off. Then, I get an idea. "How about this. We change the schedules again, so we can stay in here tomorrow and find a way to make the portal."
"That sounds great! I will miss Willnia, though."
"You'll get over it."
"She's the love of my life, Kennedy! How would you know how it feels to leave the love of your life?" he bursts, suddenly very defensive.
"Calm down. You're such a narcissist." I accuse, folding my arms.
"Narcissist? What do you mean, narcissist? I'm thinking about the both of us here!" he exclaims.
"You're seriously saying you haven't realized?" I sigh.
"Realized what?" he huffs.
"You're in love with yourself." I tell him.
Wilson pauses. "What?"
"She's you're female counterpart." I admit. Wilson takes a deep breath, his eyes wide. "Willnia is you, Wilson."
