Ed had begun crying hours ago and he didn't think he could stop. His father had left him to his agony a while ago and he'd had time to think, when he'd told Kristin that no body had told him they loved him, he'd lied, what he had meant to say was: "no body's ever told me they loved me and meant it" all those times his father had beaten him or cut him he'd said he was doing it because he loved him, once Ed had gotten older he'd realized that wasn't true, but there was a time when he had believed his father, that it was his fault he was being beaten, but it wasn't, he knew that now. His father walked into the room holding something in his hand, Ed was worried it was a knife, but when his dad but when his dad got closer to him he realized it was a phone "you know Eddie, i'm not entirely unsympathetic, so i'm gonna let you call who ever it is you need to say goodbye to before i kill you tomorrow" Ed knew who he needed to call
Kristin sat in her office reading a book when she heard her phone ringing, she picked it up "hello?" she said, she didn't know who could possibly be calling her during work hours "Hi Kristin" her heart felt like it was going to burst at the sound of Ed's voice coming through the phone "Ed? oh my god is that really you?" tears filled her eyes, and as she talked she ran to find James and Harvey "yeah, yeah it's me, i'm calling to say goodbye" good bye? why would he be saying goodbye? but she knew she desperately didn't want the answer to that question, when she finally found Jim he was sitting at his office "Jim! it's Ed!" she said, Jim looked up from the papers he was looking over, so did Harvey who had been sitting at his own desk and Lee who'd been standing next to Jim "what?" Lee said "really?" Kristin nodded and clicked a button on the phone to put it on speaker "Ed, you're on speaker, Jim Lee and Harvey are here" she said "Ed, hey just hold on we're going to get the captain and trace the call okay?" Harvey headed off to get the captain while Lee made sure Kristin didn't start crying, the last thing they needed was someone crying "it's pointless, you only have until tomorrow morning, you wont be able to get here in time" James was taken aback at those words, Ed was normally so, full of hope and cheerful, but his father had broken him down so much, Ed had run out of hope. Harvey ran in with Barnes "we got the address, we found Ed"
Everything felt pointless to Ed, there was no way they'd find him in time, he knew he was going to die, so there was no point fighting it, there was no way they were going to find him in time. He could ear Jim talking but it sounded distant "Just hang out Ed we've found the dress were headed there now" But Ed didn't listen he simply wanted to drift of and remember nothing, so he tried to fall asleep, but everything hurt to much. All he could do was hope that the death would be quick, and painless.
Kristin and Lee had been instructed to stay behind in case things got ugly, so they sat there at Jim and Harvey's desks and talked "I told him i loved him." Kristin whispered, Lee wasn't surprised, she really did care about him despite how she'd acted when she was around him before "did he say it back?" she said leaning forward slightly and putting her hand on top of kristin's to comfort her "he did, but before that he told me that nobody had ever told him that before" Kristin whispered, Lee froze "my god, has Ed really never had anybody who openly said they cared for him before Kristin?"
Jim and Harvey arrived in front of a small house, it looked worse for wear. On the front porch there was a man sitting in a wooden chair, Jim and Harvey started walking up to the front porch when the man saw them he stood up "Good Morning Gentleman, what brings you hear today?" he said, he seemed friendly for a kidnapper "A man went recently, we think you may know him, you're Ethan Nashton, aren't you?" Jim said, keeping his tone serious, he wasn't going to let this man walk free, not after the stress he'd caused Kristin and the harm he'd caused Ed.
Ed heard Jim's voice, should he call out? he should do something but he was in so much pain. But he would try anyway "Jim!" he called out weakly, maybe he would hear him Ed could only hope, even though it was hard to do so.
"Jim!" Jim heard the voice, and although it was hoarse and strained he recognized it. The man standing there tried to sprint away from him pushing Harvey out of his way "Harvey you go get him i'll get Ed!" Jim shouted quickly, as Harvey ran to catch up with Ethan while Jim went inside the rickety house to find Ed. He saw a door ajar, Jim walked over to the door, opening it more and walking through.
Ed heard the door creaking and feared that it was his father, but he heard someone calling out "Ed? are you there?" it was Jim "Jim?" he said, his disbelief setting in at finally being found, this nightmare may finally be over, Jim walked over to him and lifted Edward from under his arms, Ed tried to stand but instead his knees buckled and he fell into Jim's arms, Edward put his arms around Jim's back in a attempt to stabilize himself, he ended up just hugging Jim, pressing his face into Jim's soldier and crying "It's okay Ed, I've got you, you're safe now"
Kristin was sitting at her desk talking to Lee, that's when she saw Ed come in, she immediately got up from her chair and ran toward, not hesitating as she threw her arms around him and hugged him tightly, kissing all over his face, they stood there for what felt like forever, just hugging, she'd missed him so much, she never wanted to let go.
((//AN//)) it took me a while to get this finished so i hope you enjoy it!
