Oh you should'a seen how the Devil came to me,
all coal black eyes and
snow white smiles and
how his rusted halo outlined
in the foggy night.
"What do you want to sell?"
the roar of his power masked in a slow purr.
"A soul of course,
what else is worth selling?"
He just laughed at my truth
and the stars twinkled through the clouds.
"And your prize my dear?"
"Peace."
Oh you should'a seen how the Devil stared at me,
all paradoxes and
confusion turned curiosity and
how his rusted halo glowed
in the foggy night.
See, the Devil is an angel.
He might have left his halo to disrepair
and let himself fall faster than gravity
but an angel he will always be.
And you see,
angels need rules
to keep themselves in check.
Even when the Devil forsook his rules
he still made his own code
in a twisted paradox of fate.
If you go to his kingdom
and kneel before the throne,
you'll find an Enigma
sitting where a Paradox once ruled.
Oh that Enigma broke Paradox's code
and shattered his rusted halo
to fashion herself a crown
of perverted holiness and
decrepit sorrow.
Oh you should'a seen how the Enigma smiled
at Paradox's undoing.
