She continued following it, hearing footsteps behind her indicating that Hibiya was following.
Knowing he was behind her, she became angry again and started running faster to catch up to the cat.
"Hiyori! Wait!" Hibiya yelled trying to keep up.
Hiyori turned her head to see Hibiya frantically following her. She just couldn't keep her anger.
"Shut up! Stop following me! Leave me alone!" She yelled. She turned her head back infront to see the cat has disappeared.
She stopped. She didn't bother to look around her. She looked down. Every emotion coming towards her in one big swoop.
Then suddenly they vanished. She felt someone pulling her. She was confused. It was like time was moving slow.
She couldn't move her body because she was falling. Someone has pulled her with incredible force. Still in her slow motion state she moved her eyes to see her surroundings.
She was gonna fall on her back on the sidewalk. She saw a figure moving past her very slowly. That person pulled her with too much force, they probably lost their footing and is now switching spots with her. Before she was on the crosswalk.
Now she was falling on the sidewalk. Then she heard a voice. Not a soft voice, but a voice full of worry and fear.
"Hiyori the lights red!" He yelled.
She knew that voice. She knew it all too well. It was Hibiya. He was the one who pulled her and lost his footing. Right now his back was gonna land in the middle of the road.
Still in slow motion she saw his face. She met his eyes and luckily he was staring at hers as well. In that brief moment, she saw him smile and move his lips saying something but she couldn't hear him over the honking truck.
Then time moved forward again.
She fell on the sidewalk and closed her eyes. Hearing a giant thud. Whatever it was, she knew something just hit something else incredibly hard.
She was scared. She didn't want to open her eyes. She knew that Hibiya had fallen on the road. She knew that something bad had happened.
She opened her eyes, seeing blood all around her. She followed where the blood was coming from and saw the source.
It was none other than Hibiya. The boy she hated. The boy she yelled at. The boy who confessed to her. The boy she had rejected. 'The boy who sacrificed himself for me' She thought.
She cried. Actual tears. For the first time in her life she cried for someone other than herself. She cried for Hibiya.
She quickly lunged forward. Towards his body. The truck managed to hit him towards the other side of the sidewalk. She looked around seeing no cars passing by. No people walking by. No one to help her.
The truck just came and vanished. It was gone. As if this whole scenario was destined to happen.
She went over and looked at his body. He wasn't breathing. He wasn't moving. There was just blood splattered all around him. She put her hands on his face, moving pieces of his brown hair away from his face.
It was at that moment she saw it. The smile from before. He was smiling. She cried even more. Tears falling from her cheeks onto his face.
Her mind suddenly replayed all the moments she was ever mean to him. All the yelling, the hitting, and the confession.
She realized what she had said to him. 'Just die and stay out of my life' She repeated in her head. Those were the words she said to him.
"And my wish came true..." She said starting to feel guilty. No worse than guilty. She was angry at herself, she was sad because she did this. This was all her fault.
She didn't really want him to die. In fact she regrets ever saying that. He was her only friend. Her best friend. And now he was gone because of her.
"It's all my fault!!" She yelled into the sky. She started to shake Hibiya's body.
"Hey Hibiya...you're joking right? You're not really dead..." She was terrified. She didn't want to believe it.
"You're only in middle school...you can't be dead..." She said inbetween sobs.
"Please don't leave me!" Was her final cry. Then she heard a voice. A familiar one. One that sounded just like her.
"Oh and you wanted him gone before?" The voice said.
