they walked up to the house porch,

"Zoe, i don't think this is a good idea. the last time your parents saw me, i told them the truth."

"Evan, it's okay, they love you."

Evan and Zoe had reconnected in college, they were both freshman since he had taken a gap year.

they had crossed paths before finally getting together one night after a party they both went to.

Evan took a shaky breath before he and his girlfriend walked into the house.

"hey mom! dad!" she yelled as she turned to Evan

Cynthia and Larry Murphy came running out to see their beloved daughter and the monster of a boy who broke their hearts.

"E-Evan?!" Cynthia gasped

"hi." he whispered

"what is he doing here?!" Larry yelled

"we got back together." Zoe said as she held Evans hand

both parents looked at her like she was insane,

"are you crazy?! after everything he put us through?! what he put you through?!" Cynthia cried

"mom i love him and he loves me! don't you two care about what i want?!"

nobody seemed to notice Evan receding into himself. he began to take quick shallow breaths. the yelling around him intensified and he suddenly remembered all the times he heard his parents argue. he began to let the tears slip down his face as he pulled his hands from Zoe's.

"Zoe..." he whispered

the yelling was still going on

"Zoe..." he said a little louder through shallow breaths

still nobody could hear him, he suddenly felt his throat closing up

"Zoe!" he managed to squeeze out before bursting into tears and gasping for breath

"oh my god Evan what's wrong?!"

"i can't breathe."

Zoe lead Evan on to the porch as she rubbed his back, trying to calm him down.

"i'm so sorry Evan, i really thought they'd be open to it."

once he could breathe, Evan responded, "it's okay, i knew they could never love me again."

"hey."

"i love you." Zoe said as she leaned against him

he leaned into her and kissed the top of her head, "i know, i love you too Zo."
