"You better have a good reason to wake me up without my Starbucks." I threatened Amber.
"It's that time and just in case you're wondering, it's to late to back out."
"Do you have my Starbucks?"
"On the kitchen table."
"Thank you." I nodded at Amber who smiled and rushed me into a hug.
"Thank you for agreeing to this."
"Yeah, yeah, what are friends for?"
Amber rushed off and I rolled out of bed. I had packed me bags last night to avoid the rush unlike Amber who was frantically stuffing stuff in her bag.
I dug through my dressers until I found my black skinny jeans and white top. It was simple, but I wasn't looking for much. I just wanted to go and leave.
I went into the bathroom and took a long, hot shower before drying myself and preforming my bathroom duties. I placed my dark brow hair in a messy bun and went to get my Starbucks.
As Amber promised, my 'tall' cup of coffee was waiting on the table. It was an iced mocha and I nearly melted at the taste. I managed to glance at my clock and see the time. 5: 34.
"Amber! Hurry up!" I yelled. I was always on time. I loved being on time or early to anything. I felt it gave me a more professional stance on life, though I was only twenty- three.
Amber rushed out her room, get blonde hair in a mess.
"Help?" She begged. I laughed before sitting down my coffee and helping her get her hair in order. Being Amber's friend was definitely a labor of love. I didn't really like her when we met.
We met in fourth grade and I remember wanting to smack that crooked grin off her pale face. She had the most annoying laugh and was always making weird jokes about absolutely nothing. I was always extremely mature and didn't find anything funny about the teacher saying ball.
We had to sit together at lunch and I discovered she was a really likable person. Deep down inside she was a nice, caring person and it showed. It didn't take long for us to become friends and we were friends for life.
Amber put all of our stuff into the back of her Dodge Challenger and got in the car to start it up. I climbed into the passenger seat and allowed myself to slip back into a peaceful slumber.
________________________"Lily! Lily!" Amber yelled, disturbing my sleep. The sun was up and when I checked my phone clock it was seven thirty.
"What Am?"
"Keep my busy, I almost went to sleep."
"Am-"
"Fine, I'll just let us drift into oncoming traffic."
I sighed, "What family do you have down South?"
"My mom, brother, sister, dad, and a few uncles and aunts."
"How old are your siblings?"
"My brother is thirty-two and my sister is a teenage heffa at nineteen."
I laughed, "your sister's a what?"
"Heffa, she annoys the crap out of me. She always has these weird boyfriends nobody likes and then gets mad at the whole family. Her last boyfriend almost got her pregnant. Do you have siblings?"
"Nope, that's the way I like it."
"Must get boring."
"Not when you have over a hundred annoying cousins."
"My family believes in having a lot of kids. My mother has ten brothers and sisters."
"I couldn't do it, i'd be a convicted felon with ten brothers and sisters."
"It's kind of fun actually. Big family means we took a lot of trips to keep us all busy. The Grand Canyon, Old Faithful, Disney World. You name it."
"We took trips, just not very often. My mom and dad worked a lot."
"My mom and dad were ranchers. I would have been happy not to see them at least once in my life."
"When'd you move to New York?"
"When I was seven, just before I met you. My family hated it and we were suppose to move back, but I convinced them otherwise."
"I'm glad, I would have missed you."
"I would have missed you more."
I laughed and Amber joined in. That was how we spent most of the drive, talking and laughing.
