Apo used his finger to separate two of the louvres on his blinds. He was still looking when Fern's car arrived at the gate and it rolled back. His plan was to shower and get out of the house before everyone returned from Temple and for lunch.

He paced and chewed his fingernail for the first five minutes. Wai's whole plan was flying out the window. He was dressed and ready, he was going to walk in at Temple, take his spot beside Apo, put his arm around him....
Wai texted Fern.
"I saw you leave for Temple, Where's Apo?"
"What? Are you home? Why didn't you tell me?"
"Long story, no time."
"Is he sick? Is he alright?"
"No, he's not sick, NO, he's NOT alright."
"Hurry, Go. He's there, probably sleeping."

Depending on traffic, it takes about twenty minutes to reach the Temple from Apo's home. Titon was driving and Fern sat in the back with Mr Techaapaikhun.
He turned to her with an unusual look in his eyes. "Nong'Fern, would it be rude of me to ask who it was that you were just talking to with your phone?"
Although Apo's father didn't have a cell phone and didn't know anything about, or have any interest in how they worked, he knew what texting was, and his look, made Fern feel like he knew more than she'd assumed.
"Ah, that was Nong'Wai, Uncle."
Mr Techaapaikhun sat up and was paying attention now. "Fern, is he back?"
"Yes, Uncle, why do you ask?
The old man twisted in his seat and faced Fern, he took her hand in his. "My dear girl, I'm starting to regret that I have been the kind of man that has kept people at a distance. I think, had I been more open...."
