He was still sitting right there on the steps when Apo pulled in. Apo shut the car off and stepped out. He leaned on the car and let his arms hang at his sides.

"Come and sit beside me Nong." Wai patted the step with his hand.
Apo nervously took a seat. He laced his fingers together, he bent forward with his elbows on his knees.
"I thought about things all day P', I already know what you're going to say, but I'm ready." He stammered for a second. "I guess."
"You always think you know what I'm going to say Nong'Apo, but I'm not so sure you're right this time."
"Should I apologize first P'? I think I have a whole bunch of things to say sorry for."
Apo let loose his knotted fingers and put the palms flat to each other. He rubbed them back and forth making a soft sound. "I know you're mad at me, I ruined your party and you think I hurt Puth on purpose."
"No, I'm not mad at you, at all. You didn't ruin any party and, that was your party Apo. I know now that you weren't hurting Puth either."
Apo was speechless.
Wai reached and took Apo's hand. Nong was shaking, Wai could feel just how nervous he was. "Nong, in time you will feel differently, I'm sure that Sang won't be around much, you will forget, your heart will forget."
"My heart? That's not a problem for me P'. I feel nuts even saying it now but, I did, for about ten minutes, think I liked Sang at one time. But really, only for a little while."
Apo turned and looked at Wai. His face was full of sincerity when he said: "I never did anything with him P', nothing, ah, he did kiss my hand once though."
Wai seemed to breathe a quiet sigh.
"I wasn't sure how far he'd take his little game with you. He doesn't deserve someone as good as you Apo."
"I should have behaved better P'. If I'd listened to you, none of this would've happened. I shouldn't have argued with you.... I guess I was flattered by him sometimes, no one has ever taken an interest in me before." "Ouch!"
"Aren't you angry about Sang, Nong'Apo? He lied to you and made you think he cared about you."
Apo shook his head. He didn't speak but the answer was... "No."
"Really Nong? I can't believe how everyone around here is so anxious to forgive him. Even you. He lies and leads you on. He lies to his father and P'Fern. He treats Puth badly as far as I can see and yet, Puth is happy to be with him. I don't understand any of you."
