Rwby: Child of Grimm: Volume 4

Chapter 1: Seperate Journeys.

In an unfamiliar bed, Ruby's eyes softly flutter open. The surroundings, as she looks around, begin to feel warm, like she'd come home. It is at that moment that she sees her father sleeping in a chair nearby and a small bouquet of freshly picked roses in a vase on her bedside table.

[Ruby] "I'm...home?"

The quiet voice is enough that it wakes the sleeping Taiyang. Gazing with disbelief at his healthy daughter, his expression turns from one of befuddlement to one of utter happiness as he begins jumping for joy, hugging his daughter closely.

[Taiyang] "You're awake!"
[Ruby] "I am. Please. Stop with the hugging. Your beard is scratchy."
[Taiyang] "a-ah right, sorry."
[Ruby] "dad..."
[Taiyang] "yeah?"
[Ruby] "what..what happened?"
[Taiyang] "what do you mean?"
[Ruby] "I mean... after. After Pyrrha..."

Ruby starts to choke on her tears when she remembers her deceased friend. Taiyang quickly moves to comfort her by holding her close.

[Taiyang] "well... if it's about what happened after that... hm. I think-"
[Qrow] "I think I'd probably be better suited to answering that."

Qrow walks into the room without a moments hesitation, effectively ruining the father daughter moment but bringing forth a perfectly valid reason.

[Ruby] "uncle Qrow?"
[Qrow] "Taiyang, mind if we have some privacy?"

Taiyang, though objecting at first, eventually agrees to leave the room. Following this, Qrow explains to Ruby about her eyes, what they did and the history of them.

[Ruby] "o-okay but"
[Qrow] "but?"
[Ruby] "how did I get back to the ship? I was at the tower."

Qrow takes a moment to ponder how he should answer the inquisitive girls question.

[Qrow] "well, do you remember anything else up on the tower?"
[Ruby] "hm? I mean... I think their was another Grimm up there..."
[Qrow] "so it still looked like a Grimm back then huh?"
[Ruby] "wait, what? It wasn't a Grimm?"
[Qrow] "I had a hunch but, I think this confirms it."
[Ruby] "confirms what?! What is it?!"
[Qrow] "heh, well, the last thing from that day before we left. The strangest thing. Totally out there, like nothing you would-"
[Ruby] "Uncle Qrow!"
[Qrow] "what? Oh, right. Two teens with half their bodies covered in that Grimm armour. Each carrying a girl, bridal style, in their arms."
[Ruby] "h-huh?"
[Qrow] "it was a helluva surprise. Few people were ready to shoot them on sight. Luckily one of them spoke up before anyone actually fired. 'Get these girls some help.' Heh, even in the state they were in, you girls were the only things on their minds."
[Ruby] "u-uh, who-? Who are these two guys you're talking about?"

Qrow raises an eyebrow at Ruby before he notices something outside through the window. Qrows smile prompts Ruby to turn and look out the window herself; a look of shock and disbelief, followed by the image of her opening the window and jumping out without another moments hesitation.

What they had seen were the figures of Sol and Ryu having a training session with their new weapons in the field just outside the house. In her excitement, Ruby activates her semblance and knocks into Ryu, toppling them both over to the ground.

[Ryu] "h-huh?"

Lying face up with a new weight on top of him, Ryu is surprised for a moment before he realises who is sitting on top of his stomach with tears in her eyes.
