Rwby: Child of Grimm: Volume 4

Chapter 7: Blame

Team RNJR, accompanied by Ryu, reach a village completely destroyed by some form of assault.

[Jaune] "What...happened here?"
[Ryu] "the place has been levelled..."
[Ruby] "Ah..."

Everyone turns to see Ruby, her face stricken pale and fearful at the sight before her eyes.

[Ren] "what is...it..."

A man with grey hair and grey light armour can be seen lying amongst the rubble with multiple holes through his body. As everyone looks around they see more bodies; smashed, slashed and half eaten corpses lie strewn across the village.

[Nora] "what could have done something so horrible?"
[Jaune] "Grimm..."

As Jaune says this, Ryu spies a familiar creature lurking in the rubble. Without alerting the others, he chooses to follow the Spider Grimm into the shadows of a collapsed building.

[Ryu] "where are you taking me?"

Ryu's curiosity is soon replaced by surprise as he rushes back out of the alley.

[Ryu] "Guys! Get over here!"

Ryu's frantic calling alerts the group who rush over immediately. What they see is a man clutching his gun tightly in his hand, refusing to let it go until his final breath. The mans green clothing is stained with red and his relatively long black hair falls listlessly on the ground.

[Ruby] "a hunter"

The man coughs and splutters as he opens his tired eyes at the sound of Ruby's voice.

[Ren] "don't move, you'll only make your injuries worse."
[Man] "not like...that'll help at all."
[Jaune] "we need to get him to a doctor!"
[Ruby] "isn't there another town not too far from here?!"
[Man] "Don't bother..."
[Jaune] "what are you saying?! We're going to get you help!"
[Ryu] "It's already a miracle that he's breathing with those wounds..."
[Jaune] "so what?! Are you just going to let another person die!?"

Ryu is taken aback by Jaunes angry outburst.

[Ren] "He's right."
[Jaune] "Ren? We can't just-!"
[Ren] "That's enough. He has a hole in his stomach. He moves at all, he dies."
[Jaune] "That-That can't be..."

The man moves his free hand that he had been using to keep pressure on his wound, showing the group the gaping hole in the side of his stomach.

[Nora] "what kind of Grimm could do that?"
[Man] "I don't know-"

The man coughs and splutters once more before placing his hand back on the wound.

[Ren] "Don't talk."
[Man] "it-it's fine...you said it yourself, I move I die. I should at least warn you guys...if you keep going past this place...you'll likely come across them..."
[Ruby] "who...?"
[Man] "Grimm I've never even heard of before...with abilities that make them good for one thing. Destruction."

The words ring in everyone's ears; especially Ruby's as she remembers the Grimm she and Yang fought.

[Ruby] "this might sound strange but...did they just kinda, appear out of nowhere?"
[Man] "no...they were being led."
[Jaune] "what?!"
[Ryu] "was it a man and a woman with red eyes and white hair?"
[Man] "a woman. Yeah... she had a staff and seemed to command a few of the Grimm."
[Ruby] "command? How?"
[Man] "don't know. Just basic orders though. Saw her try to get one of them to attack a specific person and it attacked her instead."
[Ryu] "thank you for telling us this."
[Man] "no problem. Oh and another thing... there was a kid, around your age. He was killing anything in his path....human or Grimm it didn't matter. He chased after that woman."
[Ren] "can you tell us what he looked like?"
[Man] "Green eyes and black hair that had a mind of its own."
[Jaune] "I think that's enough questions. We really need to give you some medical attention now!"
[Ryu] "too late..."
[Jaune] "what?"
