Watching her walk off towards the place that she had worked so hard to get away from almost broke me. She was already broken, she didn't deserve to be crushed into even smaller pieces.
She didn't tell me where she was going, but I knew. I could tell from the look of fear in her eyes that she never let anybody see, but I knew her. I knew that she didn't want to go back there, but she had no choice.
I had hoped he was gone, that he had disappeared into the wind and would never return. He was back though, and he had gotten his hands on her again. She tried to hide it, but I could tell.
It had been so long since I had been woken in the middle of the night by her staring restlessly into the darkness, since she had nightmares of him. It had been years since this strong mountain of a woman had broken down crying in my arms, hands shaking and breathing ragged.
The demons of her past were coming back to haunt her and I don't know how to make them go away. They had taken her smile, and now they were taking her soul.
They were taking her from me and I couldn't do anything to bring her back. I'm not strong enough to help her, I'm not strong enough to set her free.
