"People can surprise you," I laughed, re-beginning my journey to the beach. "Sorry I've got to go."

"Where? It's second period. Surely you aren't wagging either," Calum said, following me. "Now that wouldn't be a surprise."

"What are you trying to say Hood?" I stopped in my place, turning around to look at him. I hated when people thought they knew me and all my habits just by looking at me. It wasn't the case and that was the thing that really pissed me off. It may have been my biggest pet peeve.

He tried to explain to me what he meant as he followed me along but I wasn't really listening, more determined to get to the beach than listen to his sorry excuses. I had never been to the beach with someone. Now that Calum was here with me, it made everything feel weird. As if it had lost its meaning.

Unless Calum was that silhouette that I saw most nights. Wouldn't that be a change of events.

I stayed quiet for a long time as I stared out into the open ocean. By the time I became more aware on everything else, Calum had left without me even knowing.

I decided not to go home just yet as everyone would be there and they would question me on why I was home in the middle of the day. Looks like I was sitting here on the beach for a few hours.

Sasha: Come back to school. I'm sorry

Of course she was sorry. That was the one thing she would say as her defence mechanism.

Me: Look, I'm sorry for what I said. I'm not going back into that shit hole. Not with all those people. I need a day. Maybe two

The thing with Sasha and I was we couldn't not be friends. Neither of us could ever be mad at each other for a long period of time. It just wasn't how our friendship worked. We always apologised because all we had was each other and that was about it.

Sasha: Where are you? We can spend the day together in town

Me: You can't wag. You need to stay in school for your scholarship

That was one thing that was on the line with her. She felt like she would lose it in the beginning of the year so she applied to a whole bunch of different universities and got into ECU, her second choice.

Sasha: The way you feel is more important than any scholarship to me

I knew that was a total lie and she just wanted to make it up to me, but I told her where I was anyway. I waited for a good 20 minutes for her to show up. Within that time I flew through a few levels of Candy Crush which really satisfied my boredom. Too bad my phone was now of 43%.

She finally showed up and looked like she had just ran a marathon.

"I thought for sure people would have caught me. You realise the bell had just rung so I had to legit bolt before I got caught by anyone," she puffed out and I was unable to hold back my laughter.

We began walking towards town which was where we would spend the next four hours while everyone was stuck in those claustrophobic classrooms.

Her and I talked about what she was doing earlier when I caught her.

"It was one of those things, you know? Like, it's not peer pressure but you just really wanna try it so you do," she explained and I sort of understood it. I hoped I would never be in that sort of position ever but you never know what could happen.

Yes I understood where she was coming from, but that didn't justify anything. I think I was more annoyed with the fact that she thought she didn't have to work for the scholarship, making her better than everyone else.
