A moment after closing the door, I began to look for Violetta who seemed to have run off in case her father had decided to chase her. I figured she already had a head start so decided to just go on alone.
I was walking just off the drive when I heard a voice behind me.
"Pssstt Angie," it said "Is he coming?"
I laughed. Violetta was sitting under a bush on the edge of the driveway.
"He's too heavily pregnant to chase you." I said grinning.
With this she pulled herself out of the bush and cleaned herself up. She had quite a lot of mud on her considering she was only in it a few minutes.
"That will do. I'll clean up properly at the studio!" She said, skipping to where I was.
As we began to walk, I was expecting our usual conversation to spring up. We always talked about her plans for the day in the morning but today she didn't. From the corner of my eye, I could see she kept glancing at me. Each time she opened her mouth, she shut it again and reconsidered what she was doing. This lasted a few minutes before I broke the silence.
"Violetta, I can see you." I began "You may as well say what's on your mind."
She stopped in her tracks. I turned to face her and she began twiddling her thumbs, something she does when she is nervous.
"Ummm, I was thinking about this morning at the table.." She stopped, reconsidering her words again.
"And...." I said, getting anxious that what Violetta has to say must be very serious if she is struggling to say it.
She breathed in and then said "Well... Dad said he'd have a baby when you have a baby, and obviously he can't have a baby, so was he trying to suggest you will never have a baby?"
I breathe a sigh of relief. This is all she was worried about, nothing too serious.
"Vilu, calm down. Why were you so worried to ask that?" I say, hugging her.
"I just think that's a huge thing and Dad seemed to suggest you wouldn't. I didn't want to ask because if he was right then maybe you would have been upset I asked." She replies, her head in my shoulder.
"Vilu, I would tell you anything! I'd never get upset. I'll always be honest with you!" I exclaimed as I pulled her from my chest.
"That's great." said Vilu and I could see she was now much more relaxed, despite the fact she still twiddled her thumbs.
"Let's walk and talk or we will be late!" I say tugging her along.
I expected the conversation die down then, yet she was surprisingly persistant.
"So..." she said, still rather nervously "Baby?"
I thought about it for a moment. I'm not against the idea. Although I'm not completely for it.
"Honestly," I say " I have no idea. Maybe. It all depends. I would have to be in love with someone. Would have to be really committed. It would cause disruption with the Studio though and you and that seems awkward and-"
Violetta cut me off.
"Ummm wait no. It would not disrupt me or the studio or anything. Don't even think of negatives. I can't see any negatives! You are making up negatives!" She cried throwing her hands in the air.
I couldn't help but smile at her annoyance.
"Vilu, I'm only making a fair argument. There are ups and downs to everything!" I say putting my arm around her.
"Okay. I agree with that but you have to admit that the good out weighs the bad. You have to at least tell me if you would like a baby. Maybe not now but in the future." She gazed at me intently awaiting her answer.
Yet I just didn't know.
