Waylon's POV:
We were set and moving once again down the various halls of the asylum. I had to keep in mind to be more careful, I didn't want to lose my cool again. I had lost control and left electricity fly from my body when I saw how badly hurt Miles had been.
I couldn't control the rage that was running through my veins and went ballistic. I let the electricity take control of my body and let it fly. I could only faintly hear Eddie's pleas in my anger filled rage and didn't come back to my senses until I felt his hand wrap around my arm and squeeze hard. I wasn't surprised to see bruises slowly forming on my arm.
"Waylon, you need to calm down! We can't help him when you're acting like this, so get your shit together!" The electricity slowly faded and I slowly noticed the pain in my arm where his hands were. I looked up into his eyes and the shame hit me like a truck.
Fear filled his icy blue eyes and his jaw was clenched tightly. I looked away immediately and let out a small sigh.
"You're right. I'm sorry." My voice came out faint and I could feel the tears stinging my eyes. Miles was hurt, and here I am putting us in more danger. I lightly pulled my arm from his hands and walked over to Miles' sleeping body.
Chris was rocking him in his arms as he quietly wept into his shoulder. I hurt to see them like this, but what could I do? I sat next to Chris and brushed the hair from Miles' face. He was stitched up, now all we had to do was wait.
I hated this part most, when we had to wait for someone to heal. You never knew if someone would get an infection, have internal bleeding, or something worse. In Miles' case, I wasn't sure if eh would die in his sleep or not.
I couldn't stop thinking these thoughts as I sat there next to the two of them. Soon my eyes grew heavy and I could barely keep them open.
I was woken up by Chris calling out for Eddie and me with a choked voice. I immediately jumped up from my spot and looked towards the two sitting beside me. Miles now sat there with his eyes open and a tired smile glazed his face.
"Miles, you're awake!" I couldn't help the joy that filled my voice and jumped forward. I quickly brushed the hair from his eyes and almost yelped in fear. His eyes were pitch black and his pupils were now a glowing white. What the hell happened to him!?
Sorry for the skips. Trying to get to the point :P
We had set off down the halls once again searching for the exit. I couldn't help but notice how slow we were moving. We were all tired and sore from the fighting and walking lately and couldn't help but move slower than we should have.
Slowly we made our way through hall after hall until I saw a familiar glow in the distance. Its anomous blue glow had coated the walls around us and I almost had a heart attack as the slowly changed into various shades of red and orange.
I knew that glow! It was the computer screens from the main hall! I couldn't help the tears of joy that ran down my face as I realized this. I was so close, we were all so close to the exit!]
I bolted in front of the group and choked out a laugh of joy amongst the tears running down my face. I knew they were staring at me with confused faces so I turned back with a grin on my face.
"Those have to be the computers in the main hall, they have to be! We're there guys, we're almost out!" Their faces all lit up like Christmas lights and they bolted forward past me.
To say we were ecstatic when we saw those entrance doors open would be an understatement. Our first steps outside had brought us all to tears. Miles pointed to a bright yellow jeep sitting outside the entrance and laughed as the tears slowly dried.
Eddie jumped into the driver's seat and I in the passengers as Chris gently laid Miles down in the back. And that was that. We all looked at each other with pure joy and began nervously laughing.
Right now would be the time something bad happens... but nothing ever did. We drove off down the drive way and continued to drive until the asylum was so far from our sight that it was like it never existed.
I know, I know, how anticlimactic. I know you wanted to hear about how we lived out our lives on the run with guns blazing behind us, but in reality, it doesn't work like that. They forgot about those patients long ago, leaving them to either starve to death or die by another's hands.
Today we sit here in the jeep, traveling until we can finally make it back home. Where home is we aren't sure yet, but we'll find it. We've been on the road for almost a week now, trying to make our way out west to find some where to settle down. Hopefully quiet.
But for now, we're happy to just be alive together.
