I woke up in the morning drained. You know Ahm can be such a... Jerk. He ruined my happy mood. Makes me want to scream every time I think about it.
I got up and went to the bathroom. I brushed my teeth and washed my face and I combed my hair.
I heard my phone ring and I picked it up, "Yeah?" I answered. "Come down stairs in five minutes, I need to speak with you." Cecil his voice sounded stern. It confused me. "Okay." I hung up the phone and put on some clothes.
I walked down stairs and I filled up Pete's bowls with food and water, but he was still sleeping. He stays up all night, I'm not surprised. I went to look out the window to see where Cecil was and he drove up right on time. He opened the door and saw me waiting on him. He walked in and sat next to me on the couch.
"How are you?" Cecil started off. I made a so-so sign with my hands. "Mhm." He said and I could tell he was upset. "What's wrong." Cecil shook his head. "I was there with you in the room when the doctor said limited time Reagan. But you played a full game. I was confused." Oh no...
"Then I get a call from your Uncle, my brother who is your legal guardian and he told me you asked him if you could get your documents changed." Dammit Uncle Rell...
"Now, you do a lot of things, and I don't ever say anything to you about them ever. I just let you do them, and sometimes when it gets too much and you can't clean up the mess, I'll step in. But this is honestly bewildering to me, that you would actually get your doctor's note changed so you can play longer." Cecil finished, his face so disappointed, I couldn't do anything else but look down.
"It's not like that." I said quietly, looking back up at him. He waited for the rest of my rebuttal. "Okay, it's like this. I'm bored all day, every day, and I just wanted something to do. So, sports have always been my outlet. You know that. I don't want the Coach to be too bothered with my condition that she ignores me and ends up not playing me at all. Then I'll go back to having nothing. I rather quit then to just sit on a bench and play for a couple of minutes."
Cecil shook his head, "Reagan, I know it's hard in school, but your health is more important. I know you have connections, and I thought I knew them all. I can't seem to find a trace on this connection you got to change this document but you should be saddened to go to such lengths. I'm worried about you and I want you to be safe. I have sacrificed so much for you, and I don't want to see it go to waste because of a game."
I pouted some, "Well, then just stop Ce's. I'm older now and I'm not in Houston anymore. You don't have to watch over me and look after me anymore. I'm old enough to make decisions like this, and I was mature enough to ask Uncle Rell for permission to do so, and he gave it to me." Cecil's face looked hurt.
"I will never stop being there for you. Know that that won't happen. So, if anything happens, I'll be there and I'll make sure you live to see another day. I already told you, if something happened to you, I would die right along with you." He assured me and I frowned.
"Why does everyone think I am going to die? Am I dying? Did the doctor tell you I was dying and you didn't say anything?" I asked him frantically and he laughed, "No, calm down... Did you eat and take your medicine?" He changed the subject, I shook my head. "It's Saturday morning. I just got up." He rolled his eyes playfully at me, "Ah, the life of a teenager. Miss those days. You know, I used to be sort of a catch." He bragged and I made a sure face at him.
"You need a girlfriend." I told him and he chuckled lightly, "What woman wants to be with a man whose job is to watch his badass 16-year-old niece?" He asked me and I laughed, "Exactly, you have more than enough time to date, because all you do is watch me. And I'm gone for more than half the day."
