When school was over we were all complaining about our new classes and how we wish the schedule was different. "I need to take the witch lady in the afternoon, because she is horrible first thing in the morning." Draya said and I shook my head.
"My teacher is weird; she's fascinated by me." I admitted like I was creeped out. "Our second period teacher cursed this dude out for not reading his book." PB said just as disturbed as when the moment happened. "I hope college ain't like this." Caz whined and we all agreed.
"How's was A&P Reag?" Caz asked me and I shrugged, "Cool, it's cold in those labs though." Caz's lips went into a straight line, "Duh! They're labs dummy. They have to be cold." I figured that was it, but that didn't change the fact that they were cold. "I'm hungry, let's go to Benny's." PB said. Drew, Dray and myself all sighed and glared at him. "What?" He asked pretending to be innocent. "You know we have practice." Draya said to him dryly and he laughed. "Oh yeah. I forgot you're not free anymore." PB snickered.
I hit him and he chuckled at me, "Read those chapters, I know you didn't." I rolled my eyes at him and he smirked at me.
PB and Caz walked off and I sighed, "Come on Draya, we're late." She groaned. "See you later Drew." We waved him off and he walked into the direction of the football field.
We got to practice and changed quickly.
"Alright ladies. Coach wants us to stretch, warm up and run some drills in the next hour. Let's hop to it."
We began our stretching drill, then we ran five laps around the gym. We finished that up and then started running our drills. It was running smoothly, Em and I came up with a good system to keep this well-oiled machine working properly.
Coach Tillman walked in a little later and she saw us doing what we supposed to. "Ladies, fall in!" She yelled and we walked to her. Our towel/water manager started passing out water and towels. "You all warmed up?" She asked and we all nodded. "Alright, yellow vs red. Let's go." I walked over to this basket and pulled out yellow mesh vest, Em pulled out red ones. Em and I stood there and called off names for our teams, passing out the color meshes to whomever we chose. Coach put us on whichever side, and we began.
When practice ended, Coach called us all back in a huddle, "Alright, that was okay for today. I'll give you a pass because school just started up, but don't start getting comfortable, because then you'll start getting tired." We all nodded at her. "Alright, lady jags on three. One, two, three!" "Lady jags." We shouted. "Captains on me."
"Good job at the beginning today, really good job. But I need more energy, they're lazy because you're lazy. I have some scouts coming next game and they're watching both of you. Please, let's step it up." We nodded. "Alright, put up the net and the balls." She instructed and we nodded at her again.
"Wonder what school they're from." Emily said out loud wondering about the scouts. "I hope they like you." She gave me a half smile, "I hope so too. I need this scholarship."
"Aren't you going to play volleyball in college?" Emily asked me and I shrugged, "I'm not going to school for volleyball, so I don't think so." She turned to me, looking impressed. "I wish I could say the same, but it's my only passion because my grades aren't that great." She explained. "I have no doubt you'll go to a great school Em." I encouraged, she smiled as we finished up.
I went into the locker room and I showered and walked back to my locker. Draya was there waiting on me.
"Man, you are Ms. Important." She joked and I sighed out loud stressed, "But I don't wanna be." I whined and she laughed, "Aw! Don't be like that you should be glad!" Like that would help...
"Coach said we aren't enthusiastic enough." I admitted and Draya made her face looked like she was in somewhat agreeance, "Well..." I turned and looked at her. "We're not?" I asked shocked and she made a face. "I mean; it wouldn't kill you to show you actually wanna be here." I smacked my lips and she giggled.
"Just show a tad bit more passion." She adviced and I nodded my head. We started to walk out the locker room. "I'm sure the football team is letting out now. I'm taking Drew home too." She said and I nodded.
We walked over to the football team's locker rooms inside the practice field and saw Drew talking to some of his fine ass football friends. I swear the dudes on the team are so fine, it's not fair, even those cute little white dudes had it. I shook my head letting out those thought.
Drew finally noticed us and he bid his friends good bye and he walked over to us. "How was practice you two?" He asked, I sighed and Draya said, "It was fine." He laughed. "Someone else thinks differently." He motioned to me and Draya laughed, "She got chewed out by the coach." He put his hand on my shoulder, "Get used to it." I groaned silently.
He put his arms around us and started walking towards the cars, "Think we should go to Benny's too. I am hungry." Drew declared and Draya sighed, "I am too, let's go."
When we got to Benny's it wasn't packed but there were definitely people here. We walked in, ordered and sat at the usual spot. I still kind of squirm here because I remember those yells that Tyrone made when Ahm hurt him. It was a very vivid memory.
"Anyways, the football team is getting a new state of the art work out center." Drew boasted and we scoffed, "We're getting the upgraded balls for us to practice and play with. They only use these type of balls in the Olympics and our school will be the first in the United States to use them." Draya clapped back at him and he rolled his eyes.
"We're a state championship winning team." Drew liked throwing that in our faces, "You can actually get a medal at the Olympics from volleyball. But I wonder where's football?" I inquired thinking I could stump him.
"And yet, none of you have an Olympic medal but I have a championship ring." He showed off his stupid ring. We both glared at him. "That's because football is life to you, not so much for us." Draya stated and he smirked, "That's why you two will never get better. You don't care."
He chuckled to himself, "Don't be mad. You know I'm right." I sucked my teeth at him, "Well you're still ugly so I guess, in the end, we win." Draya's hand already knew what to do and I slapped it giving her a high five.
"Man, I still get mad hoes." He bragged and we laughed, "Didn't deny he was ugly though." I tossed out there. "Because he can't!" Draya added on. We rolled in laughter.
"Haters. Mad haters." He glared while we continued to laugh. I reached for his face, cupping his cheeks between my finger, teasing, "Aw, Drew." He yanked his face away but I still kept going, "You two are some bad friends. I want you to know this." He feigned hurt but we smiled at him genuinely.
"I'm a lovely friend." I defended myself. "Same." Draya agreed but he kept mugging us.
"Now, now. Look who I found." I heard a familiar voice. I looked up and stared him in the eyes. He smiled at me.
