TOBIAS
Clary and Jace vanish into the Portal before we can say a word. As they go, the Portal goes, and soon enough the entire thing has gone completely. I walk over to where it is, and move my hand through the air to check it hasn't just turned invisible. My hand hits nothing. What a weird way of transport.
"That's strange," Tris says. The apartment seems eerily quiet without Jace and Clary.
"I agree," I say.
"Well," she says. "Guess it's back to normal life, then."
"Yep," I say. "Even though we have information about an entirely different world that lies within our own, and involves demons, monsters and Gothic-like warriors that tend to be very, very fierce."
Tris laughs quietly. "Don't go all scientific on me," she warns, and it reminds me of yesterday, when she said about Evelyn's house being 'scientific'. Those were the days when we thought we were beginning to become considerably normal, and forgetting about our old lives, in the experiment city. And then we learnt about the Shadow World.
"Personally, though, I think demons are cool," I admit. Tris smiles, sitting on the couch, and I sit next to her, hanging an arm around her shoulders. She leans into me, and puts her hand on my chest.
"Me, too," she says, almost sleepily.
"Are you tired?" I ask.
"I didn't sleep much last night," she says, between a long yawn.
"Were you worrying?" I ask again.
"Not worrying," she tells me. "Just thinking. I mean, I feel stupid, almost. How could we be so oblivious?"
"It's the glamours," I explain. "Like I told you, it's a mist. To stop humans - or mundanes, as they call them - seeing demons or Shadowhunters in action."
"Oh," she says. "Hah. I wasn't listening then."
"I can tell," I laugh.
"So now we know, do you think we'll be able to see those things?" she asks.
"I don't know," I say. "I guess we'll have to find out."
