JACE

Within a couple of seconds, I can smell the leafy, polluted scent of New York City. Right in front of us stands the Institute, towering and tall with its Gothic turrets and old glass windows. I think it's beautiful - the most amazing place in New York. Except maybe Taki's.

I open the door, and let Clary step in front of me. As she goes past, I receive a perfect peck on the cheek, and I grin. I clang the door shut, just to let everyone know we're back. It takes Alec two seconds to rush up to us and say hi, but then it takes Simon and Isabelle one minute to run up to us and give us hugs and kisses. I'm annoyed.

"Jace! Clary! You're back quick!" Isabelle cries. "How was the plane? Was it awesome? I've never been on one before. Only used Portal. If it's good, I may take a ride to Brazil or something and then Portal back. Anyway, how were the people? Were they weird? Did they guess? How-"

"By the Angel, woman!" I exclaim. "Slow your mouth! I can't answer loads of questions at once!"

Isabelle blushes, and mutters something under her breath that sounds like 'you lass pole'.

"Main question: was it survivable?" Simon asks. I'm not sure survivable is even a word, but I don't point this out for pedantic reasons.

"Yes," Clary says before I can say, "No".

"Good," Simon says. "No more questions needed. Except all the ones that Isabelle asked." Izzy smiles and we go into the library to talk Project Chicago.

"So she went insane?"

That's the question that Simon and Isabelle ask me at the same time, after we tell them about the incident.

"Yep," I confirm.

"You're such an idiot, Jace," Isabelle says.

"Thanks," I say sarcastically.

"No, I'm serious," Isabelle says sternly. "If you hadn't have told that Toby guy, we wouldn't be in this mess. I'll be worrying that the Clave will pounce on this for weeks."

"If I hadn't have told him, I wouldn't be sat here now," I fire back. "And plus, it's not your business. If I get slaughtered, I get slaughtered. Don't you worry."

"Oh, sure, sure," Isabelle argues. "I'll be alright, even though my brother could actually be killed by my own government for telling some random guy the most dangerous secret in the world. By the Angel, Jace! Don't you get it?"

"Hey!" Alec interrupts. "Don't start an argument. Shut up. Both of you."

"Thank you!" Clary says. I glare at her, and she smiles innocently.

"Anyway, Tris and Tobias won't tell," I say, correcting Izzy's mistake. "I actually know them. You don't. Tris said - and I quote - 'If you don't believe me, I'll go to the Clave myself and swear on that Angel person in front of them'."

"Fierce, eh?" Clary adds. "Nah, I'm kidding. She's not all that bad."

"Good," Isabelle says, obviously defeated. "Well, I'm glad you're back."

"Same," Alec and Simon say together.

"Well, it's impossible not to miss us," I say, smirking. Everyone groans and tells me to shut up, but I don't care. I'm home, and I'm happy.

Corny ending, huh?
