(Y/n) silently cheered while staring at their phone. It displayed a 'Congratulations', informing them that they had finally won 11 free 7/11 slushies after paying for 7. (Real thing I legit did during 7/11 week...it was sooo lit) They walked away from the gas station doors toward their car.
"Aren't you gonna share some of that loot with me, sweetcheeks?"
(Y/n) rolled their eyes and turned toward the voice. "Is there a reason you're always where I am?" They crossed their arms and raised their eyebrow at the leather coat clad boy. "I'm your best friend. It's my job to stalk you." J.D. chuckled, pushing off the wall and heading toward the passenger seat.
"Sorry, but I don't give rides to stalkers." (Y/n) stuck out their tongue and climbed in the driver's seat. J.D smirked, "But you do give rides to me. I'm special, aren't I?". They rolled their eye once again and started the car. "You're one lucky guy, Slush.".
"Far from it, babe."
~~~
(Y/n) pulled into their driveway, and cut the engine. "Come on, ya goof. Dinner's probably ready by now." J.D. jumped out of the car and smiled softly at the back of their head. "Thanks, sweetcheeks. Hope I'm not intruding."
"Far from it, babe." (Y/n) grinned, purposely stealing their best friend's phrase. They walked in, the other teen following after them. The moment they stepped in a feeling of warmth washed over J.D. It was always like this whenever he came over to (Y/n)'s house. It felt so....secure...
It made him smile wider.
(Y/n) turned around, catching a fleeting glimpse of J.D.'s smile before it disappeared. They quirked an eyebrow, but let it go, nonetheless. "Alright so, I can smell dinner from a mile away, so let's g-".
"(Y/n)? Is that you, love?" A gentle voice came from the kitchen. (M/n)'s head poked out from the archway, smiling softly when she spotted the two teens. "I see you've brought Jason Dean along with you. Good thing I made extra~" She chirped, untying her apron and strolling up to give the two a welcome hug. "Hello, Mrs. (L/n). I thought I've told you to just call me J.D." He returned the hug.
(M/n) pulled away and smirked at him, "And I thought I told you only when you start calling me (M/n)." J.D. grinned, "Touche~". (Y/n) rolled their eyes and made a beeline for the dining table. "So Mama, what's cooking?" They slid into their chair and rested their head on the table, staring at the food that was already placed down.
"You mean what's already cooked. Use your eyes, (Y/n). It's right in front of you." Mr. (L/n) entered through the front door, already stripping off his coat and tie. (Y/n) stuck their tongue out as their father placed down his briefcase. (F/n) walked up and ruffled their hair, smiling down on them. "I'm just kidding, you know. Although, seriously, it is right in front of you.". (Y/n) fixed their hair and motioned for J.D., who had been awkwardly standing by the kitchen archway, to come sit next to them.
He did.
"Ohh, darling~ Welcome home~ How was work today?" (M/n) cooed, setting up the plates and utensils. (F/n) sighed as he settled into the chair at the head of the table, "Absolutely dreadful. Those bastards are always so tiring to deal with. I do have good news, though...". Everyone perked up at this, "Oh?".
(F/n) paused for dramatic effect, greatly annoying (M/n) and (Y/n). "Spit it out already!" Both of them snapped, glaring daggers. J.D. and (F/n) sweat-dropped at their impatience.
"Alright...That annoying bastard, Sawyer, got demoted today for slacking off, so I got his position! Which, for those of us slow people, means that I got promoted." (F/n) beamed with pride. (Y/n) and J.D. perked up at the last name Sawyer, immediately thinking of that one girl, Veronica, that goes to their school. (M/n) smiled brightly, "Oh, dear! That's so amazing! May I ask how he was slacking off enough to get demoted?".
"Ehhhh....he was taking off too many days to take care of his daughter. Apparently, she's gone off the deep end or something like that. I bet my life insurance he was lying just to get days off!"
J.D. and (Y/n) glanced at each other, passing a message that only they understood.
'He definitely wasn't lying.'
(Y/n) grinned and J.D. smirked, making the two adults raise an eyebrow.
"Anywho~....let's dig in, shall we?" (M/n) sat down, officially starting dinner.
As they ate, the small family talked, joked, and laughed together, making J.D. smile softly. Whenever he came here, he was able to numb out every negative feeling inside him. He felt accepted....
...he felt happy.
(Y/n) blinked as they felt a hand slide into theirs. Looking down, they saw that J.D. had held their hand. The leather-clad boy still was laughing at a joke (F/n) had made. (Y/n) smiled softly and looked back at their family; all 3 of them.
They squeezed the hand back.
