"Ok, that's the last of it. Again, thank you so much with your help. I'm gonna go call Lizzy real quick, then I'll be back," I said, and Jughead nodded.
It had only taken us almost all day to unpack. Granted, I only lived in a small, two bedroom, one bathroom trailer with a small living room and small kitchen, and Lark and I didn't have that much stuff anyway, but it still wasn't that long.
I walked into the living room and dialed Lizzy's number. "Hey, you're already done unpacking?" she said when she picked up.
"Yeah. I had some extra help. Jughead came and helped Lark and I."
"Is Lark still there?"
"No, she's at work. I'm sorry. I'll have her call you tomorrow when she gets home."
"Thank you. So, Jughead came over to help you unpack?" I could practically hear the eyebrow raise from the other side of the phone.
I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks turned pink. "Don't make such a big deal out of it. And, yes, he did."
I glanced over at Jughead, who was occupying our sole armchair, to see if he was listening. He was oblivious, laptop open and earbuds in, typing away.
"But it is a big deal! So, is he still there?" Lizzy asked.
"Yeah, he's still here. He's writing on his laptop right now, earbuds in and oblivious to the world. I'm not gonna let him do this all night, though."
"Wait, all night?"
"Yeah, Lark asked him to spend the night. We don't live in the best part of town."
"But she knows you can take care of yourself. She remembers what happened last time."
"She said that's what she's afraid of. Me doing something I regret."
"Do you regret that?"
"Not a bit."
"Then don't worry, and she shouldn't either. Anyway, I got to go, Kat has a concert. Have fun and get laid!!"
"No thanks!!"
"I love you girl."
"I love you too."
I hung up the phone and sighed, already missing Lizzy. I then wandered into the kitchen and grabbed the bag of Cool Ranch Doritos, then wandered back into the living room and started eating.
After a few minutes of no sound except the click of Jughead's computer keys and the crunch of my chips, I said something to make Jughead look up. "Jug, do you ever think about what would happen if our guardians found out about what happened on the 11th?" I asked.
He took out one of his earbuds. "Sometimes. Do you?"
"All the time. Sometimes I'll lay awake for hours thinking about it."
"I sometimes think about what my mom would say, but not my dad. He's never gonna care."
"Why not?"
"He's always drunk or with his friends."
I sighed. "I'm sorry I brought it up."
"It's no big deal. I'm used to it by now. Anyway, there's a movie at the drive-in tomorrow. Do you wanna join me up in the projection booth?"
"Tempting. What movie is playing?"
"Phantom of the Opera."
"My favorite. Of course I'll come."
"Awesome. I'll take you there. Afternoon ok?"
"Yeah, sounds good. I'll let Lark know tomorrow when she gets home."
