Chapter 9 – Investigation

The group of Tuteurs had gotten to their destination as Zaix parked the airship just outside the little town of Helms Rock. Yue, Lucian and Julia took the lead first as they walked out of the ramp of the airship and stepped on the sandy plains of Zoroa’s desert region. Melfice, Zaix, Fran and Dilan soon followed the lead of the three prefects and they made their way in the town proper.

The town had makeshift houses around it on the far side and there were some solid concrete houses as well. As the group of Tuteurs walked further into the town, they all came across a tavern that had its doors busted up. The area around the tavern was damaged as well and it would seem that a major skirmish had happened here.

Lucian then felt something not right in the air. A familiar energy had come across the winds that blew against him.

“The energy of darkness here is fresh.” He said as his eyes lit up a bright yellow color.

“That’s because there are still some infected that reside in the city.” A voice said behind the group and they all turned to where it came from.

It was an injured State Merc. He had held on crutches on his left side as he struggled to walk towards them.

“What happened to you?” Melfice asked him as he ruffled his bright lime colored hair.

“It was that Rogue.” The Merc said to them as he walked near them. “This town’s not really a place for sights these days for teens like yourselves.” He added. “What’s your business here?” he asked them.

“We were the Treyah Tuteurs that were sent to investigate the abnormal darkness activity that had happened here.” Julia replied to him with a cold look on her face.

“Private Mercenaries huh?” the State Merc said as he had a smirk on his face. “Never knew that the State government already asked help from battle academies and whatnot, but whatever. The more help we get the better.” He said to them. “Come follow me, we’ll give you the deeper information that we know.” He concluded as he walked right in front of them.

The group of Tuteurs now followed him as they walked across town. They saw that there were damages around the tavern first and as they made it into the State Merc camp that was established on the northeastern part of the town, they saw as well that there were mini craters on the walls and on the ground as well. It was an indicator that a skirmish had happened in this area.

There were other State Mercs patrolling in the camp as they saw the others clear out bodies of the fallen. The injured were brought to the medical tent that was just around the corner of the camp.

The State Merc that was leading them led them to a huge tent and all of the Tuteurs went inside. It looked like a briefing room as there was a huge table that was set up in the middle and it had chairs surround it.

“Feel free to take a seat.” The injured Merc said as he held on his left crutch. “The First will be here shortly.” He said.

It cued Yue and the others to sit down on their chairs and lay back for a while. Lucian and Julia sat beside the azure haired girl while Melfice sat as he was facing Julia. Dilan was facing Yue, Zaix and Fran seated beside each other and they all awaited the First.

“How come I feel like there’s more bad news to come?” Melfice said as he rocked his chair impatiently.

“Calm down.” Julia said to him coldly. “You’re to jumpy.” She frankly stated as Zaix laughed a little bit.

“Ice queen called you jumpy.” He said but he was met by Julia’s glare.

Lucian sighed as he waited for the upcoming information that was going to be handed to them.
