As the elevator shaft went up the Doctor fell down, exhaustion waving over him. Even with the help of regeneration energy he just wanted to sleep.
Oh how that sounded so good, he hadn't slept in weeks. He looked up Missy seemed to be having the same problem, leaning her body against one of the walls. Her eyes closed as she caught her breath.
"Why aren't you with The master?" He asked
She opened her eyes, revealing the bright blueness which seemed to shine even more then they usually did.
"He killed me, or tried to." She explained looking at her boots.
"He killed you?" The Doctor asked surprised, "But why would he do that you didn't stay with me." The hurt in his heart accidentally slipping into the sentence.
"I told him I wanted to stand with you, and that I was going back, he shot me with the laser sonic before I even had the chance."
Was that true? He thought, she actually wanted to stand with him. He stood up again and walked close to her.
She flinched
That was new, "what's wrong?" He asked reaching a hand out gently placing it on her arm.
She sighed "I don't know, rough day I guess."
He nodded, and looked over when he heard the shaft doors opening. He put a hand on her back and guided her out.
"I can get out of a lift myself Doctor." She teased, walking to the tardis.
The Doctor smiled, "Just an excuse you touch you, now how about you and me go see every star in the universe." He suggested unlocking the Tardis and opening the door for her.
"I was hoping you'd say that." She said smiling brightly, "But first I would like a shower and a nice bed to sleep in."
He chuckled, "I'm sure that can be arranged."
They walked through the Tardis doors entering the cozy familiar console room. There was always something calming about it, he could never quite think of why though.
He watched Missy walk off to the closest bathroom, having the sudden urge of wanting to join her.
He shook the thought out of his head, where did that come from? Of course he knew she's always seemed to have this effect over him ever since they were teenagers. But as he matured he was able to brush those feelings aside and suddenly they were back.
"No not now." He mumbled, trying to distract himself by walking to his own bedroom and bath.
As he stripped his clothes and climbed in the shower he let the hot water run down his back, washing away the dried blood.
A break from all of this would be nice, he thought. Maybe one day I won't have to worry about saving someone, or maybe the universe will forgive me for what I've done. Maybe I'll be loved one day.
Someone that would treat him nicely too, he knew River had loved him or at least he thought she did, but he didn't like the way she brought him down sometimes or how she always seemed to be hitting him.
No he wanted someone that could understand exactly what he's been through, and exactly how he feels. And someone that wouldn't hurt him.
Unfortunately, there was no one like that.
He felt his eyes water a bit, even with the company of friends he always felt lonely. But he just abandoned his friends.
Bill was so brave, and he admired her for that. He wished he could have done more for her, and he knew it would just be added guilt.
He sighed as he washed his hair, his mind drifting to Missy again.
Oh she would be so perfect, she knew exactly how he felt all the time and she was the most like him. But it had to be her that hurt him the most.
All he ever wanted was her,
And that was the one thing he knew he would never have.
Not true, he heard at the edge of his mind.
What was that? He thought, it definitely wasn't his thoughts so it had to be someone else, but there was only one person he's ever let communicate with him telepathically.
And that meant they had to be listening to his thoughts.
Get out of my head, he said becoming frustrated at her intruding in his thoughts.
But he immediately regretted it as he felt her presence leave his mind. He didn't realize how soothing it was.
Missy I'm sorry, He thought, but it was no use she was gone just like he had asked. The doctor sighed and leaned his head against the shower wall.
Missy on the other hand was hurt by his anger of her being in his head. He had never minded before, his thoughts somehow soothed her. Especially when they were about how much he admired her.
She quickly finished her shower and got dressed in a purple silky night down. She didn't want to see him the rest of the night, so she went to a room the Tardis has made her and went straight to bed.
The rest of the night was quiet except for the soft humming the Tardis made. And the sad empty thoughts of the two Timelords.
