Today the Captain made me train with the other mates.
It was fun until the clouds disappeared and the sun poured its heat on us.
I was so sweaty that I wanted to take my cloak off right then and there but decided not to.
We decided to stop training early and relax.
I was in the shade and was drinking cold water when the Captain was standing in front of me.
I looked up and he bent down to my height and smiled.
"Hot, isn't it?" He asked.
I nodded and took a swig of my drink.
"You know you can take your cloak off, you know the mates won't say anything."
My eyes widened and I shook my head.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to pass out from this heat."
I nodded and he left.
I pulled the hood lower on my face and soon felt safe and relaxed.
I looked to the right to see the island and thought of Peter.
We've been meeting for weeks now and it's nice. We know things about each other.
Like how Peter loves to read books like me. He knows that I love the night time and the smell of rain.
I also know that he loves to play his flute for the Lost Boys.
I wonder what he was doing right now.
Was he with the Lost Boys? Was he escaping this terrible heat? What about Pan? What is he up to?
Questions formed in my head until my head started hurting.
I went below deck to go to my room.
I closed my door and looked at the mirror.
I took the hood off and stared at my reflection.
My throat dried up and I quickly put the hood back on.
Tears formed in my eyes and I wiped them away.
I turned away from the mirror and sat on my bed.
I sighed and grabbed a book from my small table next to my bed.
I found the page I was on and began reading until the sun was set and dinner was finished.
I ate in my room while reading the last page.
After I read the last paragraph I just closed the book and stared at the title until I was back to reality.
The book was about a girl who was to be married to a king but her heart was to the king's jester. They had a secret relationship until she chose him over the king. They were to run away together when chaos erupted and the jester died saving his lover's life. The girl was devastated and later married the king to get revenge on the person who killed the jester. She got it and then the book ended on a ending that made me beg for more.
I put the book down and realized that everyone was asleep.
I quietly made my way to the deck to see Peter looking at the sea.
I walked toward him and he turned to grin at me.
"I thought you forgot about me."
I rolled my eyes and told him I was reading.
We talked and then I asked him why he was so interested in me.
His eyes widened,"I don't know. There is something about you that is different from everyone else."
I cocked my head to one side and he added,"It's just that I haven't seen a young boy as a pirate before."
My eyes widened and I was going to tell him that I wasn't a boy when something stopped me.
I looked at the ocean and breathed in the salty smell of the ocean.
"Have you wondered what it would be like if you could talk?"
I raised my head at his question and then shrugged my shoulders.
I have thought about it, it's just that I never really wondered what I would sound like.
Then I heard footsteps coming up.
My eyes widened and before I could tell Peter to leave, he was already gone.
I turned to the sound to see Mr. Smee.
"Couldn't sleep again?" He asked.
I nodded.
"Was it another nightmare?"
I nodded again and he yawned,"I thought I heard voices."
I stared at him and he stared at me.
"I must be imagining things. Well I just came to check on you. See you in the morning."
I nodded to him and then he was gone.
After his footsteps faded Peter pulled himself up from the row boat.
He looked at me and gave me a grin,"Tomorrow, you and I are going to explore the island."
I shook my head and he pleaded with me.
"Come on, it'll be fun! Don't worry, I'll make sure the Lost Boys and Pan don't suspect anything."
We stared at each other for a few minutes until I sigh and gave in.
His smile widened and he told me he would see me tomorrow night.
He left and I walked to my room with a smile on my face.
Peter was something else.
He was different from the pirates on this ship.
Unlike the crew, he knew when not to push me and how to make me happy.
And I haven't felt happy in a long time, not since... that day.
I shook my head from that thought and went to bed.
Tomorrow night is going to be wonderful.
