Mitchell kept his promise about not telling Alex about Devion, and I kept mine. For a week I didn't see Devion. Actually, for a week he didn't come looking for me. That changed by the end of the week. He appeared one afternoon.
I was in my room reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer when I heard a knock on my window. Yes, on my window. I swept the curtains aside and discovered him crouched there in perfect balance. I opened the window without another words and he hop in as if it was his own house.
"Hello Adrianna." He said making himself comfortable on the sofa. "You seem like you're in a good mood today."
"Why are you here?" I asked in a fairly polite tone. "I thought you were not going to see me because of Mitchell."
"Are you kidding?" He laughed, "It's going to take more than that to stop me from coming to you."
"So, what are you doing here?" I didn't move any close to him, put kept my foot planted by the window.
"It seems like a while since I last talked to you, without any interference." He added, "I thought you might miss me."
Devion was confident, but everything he said made he seem arrogant instead.
"What can I help you with?" I asked, trying to break the dead silence.
"Don't you hate me?" His question was a surprise to me.
I paused to think. Did I really hate him? "No." It wasn't a lie.
"Okay." He smiled appearing to be happier. "What can I do to help you?"
"Help me?" I was a little puzzled.
"That's right. I figured you would need some help considering that everything was new to you."
"Hmm," I saw down on the couch opposite of him, "I would appreciate it if you helped answer a couple of my questions."
"Well are you going to offer your guest anything?" He joked, "I would love some water, some food, considering I just got back to LA and rushed to see you."
"What can I get you? Would you like anything to drink? Coffee, water, or tea perhaps?" I said sarcastically.
"I would love some food, and maybe some coffee?" He said kindly. "If that's not a burden to you, of course."
I was amazing at how gentle his tone was. Maybe there was someone behind the dangerous eyes.
I went downstairs without another comment. I got to making the coffee and piling cookies on a plate. I grabbed a can of orange crush for myself. Placing everything on a serving tray, I headed upstairs again.
Everyone wasn't home today. Mum and dad were out taking care of business and said they were going to be back later tomorrow. Alex was working and said to be later back this evening. This house was all mine for now, so I wasn't afraid that they might discover Devion. The only little thing I was worried about was the Mitchell might decide to pop in for a visit to chat with me.
I pushed my door open and placed the tray on the glass coffee table. "Dig in." I said invitingly.
Devion was sitting on my bed with my cat Ginger in his lap purring. Ginger expertly jumped off Devion's lap when he got up.
Devion did as he was told and picked up his coffee and took a sip. "You didn't add enough. It isn't bitter enough." He said.
"I never knew you drank it that dark." I said simply. "So you said that you just came back. Where were you?"
He reached his long fingers out and took a cookie. He bit into it and caught me staring. "I know," He said, "How amusing it must be to watch me eat a cookie."
