V E N A R I

I lay down on my bed, looking out into the night. Stars carressed the dark sky and I let out a small sigh. They looked so beautiful. I walked over to the window and leaned down, looking at the ground that was so far away. I was in a castle, my very own. I stood up and walked over to the long, floor length mirror. My long white hair fell down below my waist, pin straight. I looked down at myself and noticed, once again, how slender I was. I looked fragile, but that came to an advantage when fighting enemies. They underestimated you. When they underestimated you, they let their guard down. When they let their guard down, you get a good chance to slit their throats in one clean stroke. I looked up and into the mirror. Reluctantly, I looked at my face. There were no denying that I was beautiful. I had brilliant red lips and high cheekbones. I looked at my eyes and smiled to myself. My right eye was a glistening gold. This eye held the power to control the elements whenever I needed to. It came in handy very often. My left eye was a luminous blue. It had the ability to turn me into different animals. This was a good enough power, but I seldom used it. When I was in a fight, I liked to fight fair. I turned away from the mirror and sat down on my bed, closing my eyes. I was ready for some sleep. I hadn't slept in a while...

"Venari!" I groaned and opened my eyes to see a very energeric girl bounce into my room. She was my age, but she looked at least two years younger. She had long, light blue hair that was in pig-tails and stunning silver eyes. I stood up and she enveloped me in a hug. I staggered back and frowned down at her.

"Occidere, I told you not to hug me. I don't like being touched." I said, lightly pushing her off. She giggled and plopped herself down on my bed. She gave me a happy smile and bounced up and down on my bed.

"Oh but Venari, I'm so excited!" She exclaimed, pressing her cheeks together with her hands, making her look like a fish.

"That doesn't mean you can just burst into people's rooms and  tackle them." Said another girl. I watched as she walked in, head held high. She had elbow length dark red hair, and bright orange eyes. She walked with confidence, looking at me and smirking. She wasn't as energetic as Occidere, and she wasn't as monotone as me. She was in between, and she was the only thing that kept me sane.

"You too Caede?" I asked, sitting down on a stool that was in front of my mirror. I still faced Caede as she went and dragged a comfortable chair between Occidere and I. She sat in it so that her legs and head hung off the side, and she winked at me. I frowned and looked at Occidere.

"Why are you so excited?" I asked her, because she looked like if she waited any longer she would explode. Occidere squealed and clapped her hands together, making Caede roll her eyes.

"Oh it's fabulous Venari! The Chief has asked to meet with us! Isn't that great!" I stiffened and I saw Caede tense.

"When and why does he want to meet with us?" I asked, picking up a knife that was sitting on my night stand. Caede fiddled with the whip she always kept by her at all times. Occidere shrugged.

"He didn't say why he wanted to meet with us, but he wants us to meet him in his tent in about two minutes." She said happily. I groaned and Caede leapt up off the chair.

"Two minutes?! And you didn't think to tell us this sooner?!" She screamed, waving her hands in the air like an idiot. Occidere frowned and seemed to curl in on herself.

"I thought... I thought it would be enough time. I..." She started to shake a little and tears started to brim in her eyes. She looked at me with a heart-broken expression. "I'm sorry Venari... I messed up... I should have given us more time... I made a mistake..." She said, shaking her head and clutching the bed so tightly that her knuckles were turning white. I stood up and touched her shoulders comfortingly as Caede rolled her eyes and pretended to shoot herself.
