Saturday, ah, Saturday. A day where most people would be grabbing a bite to eat with their significant other, or catching up with that friend they haven't seen in over a year.
Well, as cliché as this sounds, I'm not in that group, because all I've done my Saturday is throw my (just packed and folded) wardrobe apart trying to find what to wear.
"Ellie! It's nearly 12 o'clock, you have to be by Alivia in twenty minutes!" I silently curse as my mother shouts the time up the stairs. I eventually settle on my dark blue one-piece swimsuit, a white retro muscle tee and my black ripped shorts.
"Ellie, are you ready?" Mom peeks her head through the door as I throw on my white high tops, grab my bag and sped downstairs.
Mom strolls down after me, holding my phone out to me. "Gee, sweetheart, I could taste your dust, but next time, try not to forget anything." She winks as I take my phone, give her a goodbye kiss on the cheek and race out to the car.
Mom is silent all the way to Alivia's house and makes long conversation when she meets Alivia's mother, Linda.
"It's so lovely to finally meet you, Ellie, Alivia seems to really have taken a liking to you." Alivia's mother says in a soft and sweet voice.
"ELLIE!" I turn around just in time to dodge the air assault of pillows coming from one of the upstairs windows. I look up to see Scar, Rowan and Liv beaming down at me.
"Girls!" Aunty Linda yells up. I jump at hearing how loud her voice is and when Liv invites me in from the window I say goodbye o my mom and make a Bee-line inside.
"Scar, don't forget to get the pillows, you did lose the bet." Rowan and I giggle at hearing how sternly Liv talks to Scarlet.
Liv then turns to me and says, "Did you bring the stuff?"
I nod seriously and thrust my hand into my bag, grappling around for the long plastic box, while Scarlet jogs down the stairs to fetch the pillows.
I pull my hand out with a great show and throw my arm into the air. The girls immediately start cheering and laughing. Scarlet even wipes a fake tear from her eye and Rowan throws an arm over Alivia.
"Long chips!" Scar wails jokingly, still at the stair. She rips the chips from my hands and tears into the covering.
Within minutes we've each shoved at least two or three of the long, paper thing chips into our mouths.
"Okay, if you ladies would do me the honours of buying pizza with me..."
I smile as Liv gestures around the door.
~*~*~*~
About an hour later both Rowan and I are rolling on the floor, competing with each other for who ate the most, and Scar and Liv are waiting for us to change into our bathers to go to the beach.
Well, waiting for Rowan, I'm already in my swimsuit.
Eventually, Rowan changed into a cute red one piece and we're able to leave for the beach.
~*~*~*~
As we get to the beach we notice one crucial thing, it's high tide.
"It should go down a bit after a while right...?" Scar unconvincingly says as we throw down our towels on the little strip of the beach that the water hasn't yet reached. Immediately, Rowan takes out a book and reads, while Liv lies down on her towel, clearly ready to start tanning, although she already has glowing, tanned skin.
"C'mon!" Scar grabs me by the hand and drags me down to where the waves meet the beach. The cold water feels amazing on this boiling hot day and I hobble in a little further.
Scarlet squeals and giggles as we feel the waves (which were, by now, hitting our tummies) cascade over us.
"I have a secret..." She whispers to me suddenly, peaking my attention. "...I'm afraid of the ocean..."
"So am I, this is the deepest I've ever been in." I reply in the same whispery tone and we both tumble over with fits of giggles.
We continue to play like this for a while before we hear Alivia screaming for us to come back and only then do we realise how far we've gone out.
As soon as the realisation that I can barely touch the ground hits I begin to panic.
I feel my heart shoot up my throat, blocking me from breathing. My legs begin to feel tingly and exposed, while my arms start to seize up. The water suddenly has a cold bite to it and seems much higher and the ocean much more dangerous than before.
As if I were screaming like mad, Scarlet whips around to me with the same panic in her eyes, only hers is masked with concern.
I wonder for a minute why everything seems so blurry and jumpy, but then it hits me - I'm going under.
Yayy! Cliffhanger!
And a super long chapter (Okay not that long, but it's longer than usual!)Anyway
