"Ma'am, do you have any evidence to support this claim?"
I was stumped, I had just told the cop (whose name I have discovered is Darren) everything that happened in the woods and judging by the look on his face, he didn't believe me either.
"No..."
"Then, unfortunately I can't do anything..."
I felt like crying all over again, but I simply got up and walked the rest of the way home.
How can no one believe me?
I reached home at about five, my mother answering the door then pulling me inside.
"Why are you not at Alivia's? Did something happen? Why didn't they drive you home? Please tell me you didn't walk home alone...Elliot?"
I simply shook my head and mumbled "I'll tell you about it tomorrow" then moved to my room.
Moony purred and curled up against me as I slept.
*~*~*~*
I slept through most of the day and Mom ended up telling me to stay home on Monday, too.
I slept through Monday, and woke up at five on Tuesday.
"Baby," Mom said to me Tuesday over breakfast. "What happened on Saturday? Why did you come home?"
"You wouldn't believe me..."
"You said the same thing when Kaylee-"
"Mom."
I took a deep breathe and retold the story for the third time, when I finished Mom simply nodded.
"I believe you." She said firmly then got up to get ready for work.
Now what?
*~*~*~*
The whole group refused to speak to me. Even Annie and Stella wouldn't look at me.
During class Rowan asked to move seats away from me because she couldn't see. Somehow I doubt that, but I didn't question it.
At break, as though an unspoken agreement, I did not sit with the group.
A girl with wild dirty blonde hair and massive black glasses similar to my own, sat next to me at the table.
"Hey, Ellie." She smiled and set her books next to me.
"Hi..."
"Charlette."
"Right."
I turned back to my book, while Charlette busied herself with scribbling something down.
After a few moments she spoke up. "Why are you not sitting with the group?"
I looked up from my book to her.
"They don't want me there."
She looked at me for a long time before finally answering.
"That's not very nice...Why don't you ask them about it? It could just be a misunderstanding, or you could just hang out with me here," She laughed and I had to take a moment to admire how pretty it was for such an...well...average girl.
I mean, she isn't ugly, no, her nose slops at just the right angle to be considered pretty, but drags itself out into a sharp point, her eyes are wide and almost owl-like with grey eyes. Her lips are not thin, but they do have a cupids bow that drops down deep into her lip and I guess she could pass for a fairy in some way.
She wasn't stick thin, but she was so tiny that her clothes hung in a way that suggested she hadn't been shopping for a while, then again I wasn't one to speak. Standard black combat boots, black leggings and a dark blue over-sized sweater.
Don't even get me started on my hair, though. Hasn't been brushed since Saturday...
Just the thought of Saturday made my heart beat three times faster and my stomach clench uncomfortably.
Suddenly, I could hear the screaming all over again...I felt like throwing up...Wait, someone's actually screaming. I have seriously got to learn to recognize screaming.
I whip my head around to see Melissa Grant screaming something at a poor freshman. The kid tried to defend himself, but Melissa simply stared him down and yelled, "Shut the damn hell up!"
Eventually gaining the attention of the library monitors who ran to intervene, Melissa flicked her shiny black hair over her shoulder, then her eyes swept over the room.
Her dark green eyes landed straight on me, then on Charlette and I could have sworn I saw a hint of a smile playing at her heavily drawn lips. She then twisted her hair around a long, milky white finger and sauntered out of the library.
