"ELLIE!" I jumped as I heard someone call my name, nearly bashing my knee on the bottom of the desk.

I stared up into the shinning dark eyes of Alivia.

"Hey, you fell asleep, class is over." A distant "ITS FINALLY WEEKEND" echoes outside the class and I can only assume it's Rowan.

"We wanted to know if you wanted to do something this weekend? Rowan, Scar and I were going out to get pizza then maybe go to the beach tomorrow, wanna come with?"

About a week has passed and me being new to the school is no longer the gossip (well not entirely there still are some people who still talk).

"Sure." I find myself saying, throwing my bag over my shoulder, not thinking about how heavy it is and a large ripping noise then the slam of my books hitting the floor echoes in the empty class room.

My face immediately turns a deep shade of red and I scramble to pick my books up, Alivia helps and Rowan sticks her head through the door, strolling over to us and helping with my books.

Eventually we pick up all my books and shove them in my bag. The broken shoulder strap bangs loosely and I'm left to carry my whole bag (books and all) against my chest.

The girls make quiet conversation as we walk to the car park, on our way down the steps to the front door we walk past a tall, black haired girl.

She flicks her shimmery hair over her shoulder and throws a dirty look to my bag.

"Wow, they really are letting anybody in this school these days, even stray dogs."

I feel my face heat up again as she titters and turns away from us.

"Yeah, says the one who sleeps around with any guy she can get her hands on, so who's the real stray dog, tramp?!" Rowan turns around and yells back at her.

The girl turns around, screws her face up tight and walks back to us.

"What did you just call me?" She looks down dangerously at Rowan and then fixes her icy blue eyes onto me.

"You're the new girl..." Her face is now inches from mine and I can see the outline of her real lip shape under the over-lined dark crimson lipstick.

"Ellie." I say, mustering as much confidence as I can.

She pulls her face away suddenly as if she's been burnt.

"Well, I'm Melissa Grant, pleasure to meet you." A sickly sweet smile formed over her glossy lips and she turned her eyes over Alivia and Rowan.

"And if I was you," Her eyes still trailed over the girls. "Maybe I'd choose my friends a little better."

She turned away and carried on walking down the corridor, her green Louboutin heels clicking noisily.

"Gosh, she's such a bitch at the best of times!" Rowan burst angrily.

Alivia simply went quiet and mumbled a small "Yeah..." as we continued walking to the parking lot.

"My mom should be here, you guys don't have to wait with me." I said as we reached the exit doors.

"No, we'll wait, we want to meet your parents." Rowan and Alivia seemed adamant to meet my parents, well, my mom. They don't know about my family and I kinda don't know if they should...

"I really-"

"We'll wait." They said forcefully in unison.

Well, I guess now is as good a time as any to tell them...

"Umm, there's something you should know..." They both looked up at me with wide eyes and I felt a stab of guilt at not telling them straight out.

"When I was thirteen, my parents divorced. My mom left the house and came back here, her hometown. About a year ago my dad..." I took a deep breath, trying to blink the tears away and carried on. "Passed away. Since he never remarried, there was no one to look after me, I had to live with my aunt. It took my mom nearly a year to gain custody of me. Thus, I had to come here, where I live with my mother and cat..."

A long silence stretched once I closed my mouth.

The girls were still looking up at me.

Suddenly, they grabbed my shoulders and enveloped me in a huge hug.

"Ellie, you should have just told us!" Rowan beamed at me.

"Yeah, we would have understood." Alivia finished for her.

BEEP!

A loud hooting interrupted our moment and we sprang apart so quickly I dropped my bag once again.

Alivia and Rowan helped me pick up my things and walked me to the car.

"Hi, Ms. Mitchell!" They chorused as I climbed in the car and my mom drove away, her yelling hi as we sped off.
