Behind the battered couch was a pristine window, narrow and short with sheer beige curtains. She slid them aside, got to her knees, and gazed at the setting sun. Negan lay across from her with his hands behind his head, boredom etched across his features.

Clouds billowed over the vivid hues above. Red, yellow, blue, more than she could focus on at once. They merged to form swirls that floated across the sky. She'd watch a sunset over a movie any day, but Negan didn't feel quite the same way.

"Negan?"

He grunted.

"Will you come outside and watch the sunset with me?"

"No."

She looked at him incredulously. "Why not?"

"You're gonna fuck up your eyes if you keep looking at the sun like that." He slouched his arms over his chest and dropped his head to the side.

A small cloud parted slightly to let the bright light of the sun peak through. She had to squint as she waited for it to descend behind the pine trees. The pinnacle only lasted a few moments. It ascended above the trees and fell as quickly as it went down.

"For a few minutes?" She asked again, this time jutting her lower lip. He threw his head back with a groan and propped himself up on the couch.

"Goddamn."

If they could, the corners of her lips would have touched her ears. "Love you."

"Yeah," he mumbled. She thought she heard him say ' love you too', but if he did, it was barely above a whisper. She jumped from the couch and hurried toward the sliding glass doors. Negan pulled them open while she stood on the tips of her toes, peering over his shoulder.

"It's like you've never seen a damn sunset before."

"I watched them back in high school." She smiled and wrapped her arms around the wooden column. "I don't know why."

"You read and watched sunsets to get yourself off? What kind of damn teenager were you?"

"Oh, and what did you do?"

"The opposite of everything you did, I imagine." He slid his leather jacket off along with the fingerless gloves and stood behind her, a hand rested on her lower hip.

"Asshole," she muttered.

"This sunset very well may be fucking blinding me, but I sure as hell ain't deaf."

"Doesn't make you any less of an asshole. Just a blind one."

"Oh," his chest rumbled with laughter, "and when the fuck did you become so quick-witted?"
