I woke up the following morning feeling groggy as my alarm went off with its usual annoying sound, I got up and quickly flung my hair up in a messy bun before checking my phone.
I had 6 texts and 8 missed calls from Luke...
'Al are you still awake?'
'Al I need you, please text me back'
'God dammit Alison wake up. Please'
'Al my dad's here. He's just turned up at our door'
'Al phone me please I don't know what to do, my mum is distraught please we need you'
'You know what fuck it it doesn't matter now'
My heart dropped, Luke's dad hadn't been home for 9 years. Last time he turned up at his door it was to pick up Luke for his holiday at his house but when Luke refused to go his dad was furious he came back that night and vandalized their home.
I quickly dialed Luke's number he didn't answer so I text him instead
'Hey Luke I'm so sorry my phone was on silent'
'Don't worry about it I'll see you in school'
'We walking today?'
'No just go to school Alison I'll see you there.'
I got ready thinking of the short conversation, why wouldn't we be walking I mean we always walk. Rather than over think this I decided to call Sophie to see if she wanted to walk.
"Hey Sophie I was just wondering if you'd want to walk today?" I asked when she picked up second ring
"Oh hey Alison yeah that's fine will I get you at yours?" she asked
"No it's ok I walk past your house to get to school anyway" I reassured her
"Ok well I'll see you in 10, bye love you"
"Love you to Sophie" I say and hang up the phone
Once I was dressed, and makeup on I grabbed my shoes and left the house shouting to my parents that I'd see them after school.
As I approached Sophie's house I seen her standing outside wearing more sensible clothes today, she had a red choker top on and a pair of jet black jeans
"Hey nice outfit Sophie" I say as I walk up to her and give her a hug
"Thanks Al I decided not to piss Luke off anymore" she laughed back. A sudden wave of guilt hit me, my face must have gave me away because Sophie gave a pout
"Alison? Are you ok, do you need to talk?"
"Wha...No no I'm ok Sophie really" I say forcing myself to smile. We reached the school with 15 minutes to spare, we walked up to the study room my eyes immediately found Luke I walked over with Sophie right at my heels. When we reach the table I take my usual seat beside Luke whilst Sophie sits on my over side it's silent at first and I couldn't bare it
"So where's Jamie today Sophie?" I say getting my sketch book out, I start to sketch the waterfall from last night paying extra attention to the dark figure standing at the side of the page
"Oh he's not well today, he's got a bad stomach" she said gazing over my shoulder to see my sketch "How was your night, Luke?" she said trying to include Luke into the conversation
"Safe to say that I have had better nights" he said not looking at either of us
Just then the bell rings, I was in double modern studies with both Sophie and Luke but Luke just got up and walked away leaving me and Sophie look after him shocked.
Modern studies went by slowly I had a free period 3rd which I spent, as always, in the study room sketching, by time lunch came I had finished sketching the main parts of the drawing. As always me and Luke went to the shop just down the road to get lunch except this time we had Sophie with us, Luke walked in silence again, I had had enough of the silence and told Sophie to walk on whilst I spoke to him, she protested a little but then she saw my pleading look and walked on
"Luke what the hell is wrong with you? I'm sorry for not being there last night ok, I feel terrible about it but why are you not talking to me?" I ask putting my hands at the top of his arms, he shrugged them off
"Alison I have been thinking and I just can't trust you anymore, to be there for me, and it seems like ever since Jamie and Sophie turned up we aren't the way we use to be and it's not fair on me so I'm done with the games about what you want, you kissed me last night then ignored me when I needed you most please don't get mad but I can't be friends it's too much bother so yeah I mean our friendship was fun but you obviously don't like me the way I like you, so I'm just going to go, good luck with you know, everything you have been going through we can still talk as such but a ran it by some of my friends and they said that I have let you play me for too long now so goodbye Alison"
He started to walk back to school "Luke..." I tried to grab his arm but all I got was thin air. I fell to my knees and broke down, the pain in my heart was excruciating I couldn't breath Sophie saw me kneeling on the ground and ran over
"Alison oh my god are you ok?!" she said trying to raise me to my feet but I wouldn't move
"He's gone..." was all I could manage to say...
