Damon's Death

Elena turns around and sees Damon who grabs both of her arms.
"Damon?" Elena smiles. Damon and Elena had developed a friendship, and they had bonded even more after Damon had finally moved on. But suddenly Elena's smile turns into a frown. "What are you doing here?"
"Stefan wanted to risk it all..." Damon started explaining. Elena was confused.
"Elena, Katherine came back. He wanted to sacrifice everything so I could live a long happy life. But there was no way I would let that happen. So I pushed him to the side, so that he wouldn't have time to save me before the hellfire took over."
"So Stefan is okay?" Elena asked.
"He's okay."
"But you..."
"I did what I had to do."
Elena's instinct was to hug Damon. That's what she did.
"One day you'll wake up and live a happy life with Stefan. But I need you to remember something. I will always love you."
Elena nodded, and with a shaky voice she answered: "I'll remember."
Damon let go of Elena and she walked him walk away. They were in the middle of the street, where they first met.
