In the other side of the canteen, the said stage event started. A large, bulky, officer in disguise of a recruit, while cutting queue, tripped purposely another recruit, who was carrying a tray with mash potato, eggs and sausages, obviously causing him to spill it all to the ground.
Of course, the classic bullying scene.
This scene has yielded quite a variation in the results over the years. In some years, the victim would fight back, some years, a passerby would help and other years, the victim was pitifully left alone. Now, what would it be this year?
Stehlen wondered, crossing his fingers in front of his mouth. And which interesting individuals shall appear?
In this case, the victim splendidly spilt everything and lay collapsed on the ground, totally helpless.
Furthermore, as if to throw insult on the injury, the big sized "recruit" shouted, "Huh?! Look, where you are going, you twerp! Look what you did, my shoe is covered with eggs because of you!"
In truth though, "covered" is a huge exaggeration, only scraps of egg dirtied his shoe. However, the "recruit" is not necessarily a bad person, he is just following his script, but his script can be excessively cruel at times. He grabbed the shivering, poor victim by the collar. He raised a fist above his head, ready to strike.
Orpheus POV:
Just when I was trying to pacify the crying Rin, an outraged roared resounded. Hearing this, Rin came to her senses, realized the crowd around us and wiped away her tears and grumbly demanded.
"You will definitely tell me what happened in all the years I have not seen you later on."
Uttering a non-committal "Of course, of course," in an attempt to pacify her, we moved closer to the source out of curiosity and the crowd watching us integrated into a larger crowd watching the other ruckus.
There, we saw a large recruit about to punch another sniveling, miserable recruit. I was watching the situation, wondering what the best thing to do is. Just then, I felt a tug on my sleeves. Turning around, I saw Rin. She was tugging on my sleeves, staring at me with desperate eyes, even with no words, I could understand what she was imploring me to do.
Geez, is it just a trait for the Aer family to be righteous? Since I first met them, they were a warm, kindhearted family that always upheld justice and were always true to their values and ideals.
I really don't want to interfere. I might get beaten up. I am weak after all. But Rin is asking me. In that case, it becomes simple.
"Umm... Excuse me, stop right there, you shouldn't go beyond that." I interrupted, trying to sound stern. Yeah, no matter what, if it is Rin asking me, I just do it. There is only one choice.
"Who the hell are you! Get lost! This is a private conversation!" He raged.
To me, this looks anything but a conversation, though if I point that out, I will probably get my face bashed in because of being a sarcastic wise-ass. Anything I say will be pointless by the looks of it. I don't really want to get into a brawl with him though. I'm a pacifist after all... Yeah, enough with the gasps of incredulity, I know it sounds like I'm full of crap since I am in the army.
What kind of pacifist enlist in the army? That's what you want to say right? But it is true that I do not want to fight.
