Let's review what my goal is shall we? Rin wants me to stop him from beating up the victim and there are multiple ways to do this.
Give the bully some sort of compensation or reason that he will be satisfied with. Stop the bully by force or report it? What else is there? All the aforementioned methods seemed difficult.
Another way would also be to cause a larger distraction so that he can focus his attention elsewhere. Just like when Rin got distracted just now. But the only distraction I can think of is to cause a fire and I'm damn sure the military will place me in jail for that. Sure as hell not confident to pull it off without getting caught.
Which leaves me to only one choice. When you eliminate all other options, the last one, no matter how difficult or unwilling you are, it will be the only resort left. Such a painful method, I really don't want to do it. But this is the only way in which no one but me will get hurt and since Rin is asking me, I need to do it.
I glanced on a someone's food tray on a table right next to the big guy. Yeah, it laid nonchalantly right there. Hahaha, the last piece needed falls into place. I really can't back down now.
Walking leisurely past the bully, I picked it up deftly with my body blocking the bully's vision, so that he couldn't see what I took. My fingers sure haven't got rusty, despite being such a long time since I stole something huh? I slipped it up into my uniform sleeve immediately.
"Huh!? What are you up to now?" He asked confused.
"Nothing, I just want to check up on him," I replied, my heart pounding rapidly.
Just now, when I stroke up a conversation with the bully, the bully loosened his grip and turned towards me. The victim then slipped out of his grip and cowered on the floor, too paralyzed with fear to move.
Geez, what kind of soldier are you? If you are a soldier, at least have the courage to run away. Honestly. Because of you, I need to clean up this mess. After this incident, he will definitely repay me till I'm satisfied. Hahaha.
Comforting myself with this thought, I bend down in front of him. My back facing the bully, obstructing his view on what I am going to do. The thing that I swiped previously was a tool for eating. A tool that was found commonly in every tray. A tableware knife. With this, began my plan to get the victim out of here.
Glancing straight at the victim, I lowered my head and whispered, "I'm going to get you out of here. All you need to do is play along."
The victim had green, shoulder length wavy hair, with his bangs covering most of his face. Buried behind the hair, an effeminate face and tear stained eyes stared hopefully at me.
Come to think of it... Wasn't green hair a trait of one of the main family as well? No way, this sobbing boy can't be in one of those families? I'll ask his name later on I guess.
Using the knife, I slit both my wrist. Obviously, lukewarm blood spurted out from the wounds in buckets. Staining his uniform red thoroughly, I, in a loud voice, declared.
"Ahh! How horrible! So much blood! Did you cut yourself when you fell?"
I moved my body to a slanted angle so that the bully could not see my wrist but could see the victim soaked in blood. Next step, I placed my hands under his body and carried the victim up, hiding my slitted wrists under his body.
Making a show of urgency and panic, I asked the people to clear way, while running off to the infirmary. Fortunately, the bully fell for it, hook, line and sinker. He backed down. He believed my bluff. He did not call me out. Probably due to fear of punishment or something, the army does prohibit wounding others seriously after all.
While smirking to myself, I brought him safely to the infirmary, then Rin came running a moment later.
"You idiot! How could you do that?" She shouted, tears once again forming at the edges of her eyes.
Aiyaa... Should I say as expected of Rin to guessed what I did or is it just that my plan was way too obvious?
"Come here, let me heal you." She asked, snatching my hand forcefully even after I refused.
"Hmm! What's this? An old scar?" She asked after inspecting my hands.
I quickly withdrew my hands in a flash behind my back, looking like a guilty second grader who was caught in doing something wrong.
She glared at me. And I crumbled. Yep, just like that. Man, she is way too terrifying.
"Previous attempts. Yeah, I did the same thing previously." Ambiguously answering that, I bandaged my hands by myself, grinning sheepishly. "You don't have to heal that. I would prefer to keep it that way."
Staying behind in the canteen, Stehlen thought to himself. How interesting, who is that kid? His plan is easy enough to figure out. But why would he go so far to help a stranger even to the point of cutting his wrists? What drives him? If he is just some kind fool, he will definitely not last long... What an interesting fellow. Well, in any case, I should thank him for alleviating my chronic boredom.
And so, the first-day surveillance continued, other numerous events occurred at different locations with different observers.
Author's note:
The story of this day has not ended yet and will be continued in another time. Look forward to when Orpheus reveals what happened to Rin next time and him demanding his payment from the green haired. But now, time to go back to the main story. Have fun and thanks for reading.
