After Varian's little 'episode', he and Nathan had gone outside, walking toward the pasture and fields. Where Varian had been wearing a white shirt, as he said he would, Nathan got stuck wearing green. Not that he didn't like green- it just wasn't a preferred color.

Speaking of that episode, Nathan thought, they'd really have to do something about that. While he didn't mind the fact that Varian actually showed some type of emotion, he didn't really want it to be so negative all the time. He was fairly sure it wasn't healthy.

... Then again, he was talking about someone who'd lost their virginity at eleven. If that had happened to him, he wouldn't exactly be mentally healthy either.

Which brought another thought to mind- why would Grant want to have sex with a child? Nathan wasn't sure if it was something to do with Vampires, or if Grant was just the biggest jackass he'd ever heard of.

Nathan figured he must've had some sort of thinking expression, because he could feel Varian watching him very carefully before he voiced any sort of concern.

"Something bothering you?"

"... Not really." Nathan mumbled, knowing that he was lying, but not really willing to bring the subject back up. It was enough that Varian had told him all that- he didn't want to be an ass by asking questions.

"Speaking of thinking, I remembered something I wanted to talk with you about. About Millie."

"Oh?" Did they really have to talk about her? Now?

"She's alright with us, but I think she knows something. About you. And your mother." Varian said hesitantly, holding Nathan's gaze. Nathan knew she knew something- she always knew something. He'd briefly thought about going to her about what happened to his father, but then thought against it, because she'd inevitably tell Elle.

"I can't really say I'm surprised. Woman knows crazy shit." Nathan said with a shrug, looking back at Varian for a minute before he looked away, toward the fields.

"We talked about you and I, and what we are, and she knew about Grant. I never told her anything about him, but she confessed to hearing it in the store." Varian paused. "She said it was good that I don't try and hide anything from you and we got to talking about comfort zones. That's when she said something that I thought you might like to hear."

"And that would be?"

"She said that she has an ulterior motive for hiring you at her store."

... She had an ulterior motive? Well, didn't that sound pleasant...

Nathan frowned and crossed his arms over his chest. He wanted to know what it was. Part of him hoped it had to do with his father, but Millie could be unpredictable at times. "... She did? Well that's interesting..."

"I asked her about it, but she said I had to wait and see. I think it's very interesting. So maybe you should ask her your questions instead of your mother?"

"I had been thinking about doing that. Just never went through with it." Nathan mumbled, only half paying attention now that his mind was working around what Millie wanted. He would certainly be asking her sometime soon.
