"Takes more than one idea, more than one person to fight the fight"
The Fight, Avenged Sevenfold
"Open the damn door, Roman, or I'm going to bash in your head with a medical textbook and laugh at the irony!" Ryo shouted, sounding absolutely enraged through the door.
"It disturbs me that she's a medical student." I muttered, looking at Almon for help. He didn't even bother to look up from his textbooks.
"Us medical students are known to be insane." He responded in a half-hearted tone. "You should watch your back."
"Go away Ryo!" I shouted, ignoring my roommates comment. "Or I'll have Almon come out and beat the hell out of you!"
Ryo stopped shouting, and I could hear her heavy footsteps and angry mutters growing more and more quiet. I smiled. "Thanks Almond."
"My name is Almon, and I have no idea why she's scared of me." Almon shook his head, exasperated. "Anyways, you probably deserve it. What did you do, anyways?"
My grin turned into a smirk as I pulled out anew box of cigarettes and tossed them from hand to hand. "No comment."
"Those things will kill you," Almon sighed, shaking his head. "I don't know if I should tell you to stop or buy about five more boxes."
"You know you love me." I stuck out My tongue, rather childishly.
It was true that me and Almon were best friends. He the first real friend in college, which was understandable, being my roommate. He had introduced me to Ryo, his classmate, and was now also my friend, despite the death threats.
I was surprised they weren't dating, but nor all too disappointed. After all, no one wants to be the third wheel any more than I already was.
They were both junior medical students, while it was my first year majoring in photography. While I like to think I wasn't an idiot, I wasn't Bill Gates. They weren't only smart, but passionate about their subjects.
Neither were into the grunge scene, although Almon seemed to be amused in my taste of music for some reason.
Almon had only had one girlfriend while we roomed together; at least, only one serious enough to come around and be introduced to me. It was shocking, to say the least, considering Almon was moderately attractive.
Almon was a little taller than average, but of fairly average weight and fair complexion. His hair was a perfect mix of brown and blonde, like melted caramel. He had serious grey-blue eyes that seemed even clearer behind his wire framed glasses.
I, on the other hand, was thin and a whole two inches shorter than him. I was pale and admittedly not athletic, but I'm also not making any efforts to become the next Messi. My hair was a darker brown, and my eyes were a flat hazel color.
All in all, any other college student with his looks and brain would be swimming in girls. But Almon wasn't interested in any relationship that would be purely 'hit it and quit it'. He had told me once he was demisexual- which relieved me, since I had been worried about getting a roommate who was sex-obsessed.
Almon had been my closest friend since enrolling, and he was one of the only people who didn't think of me as the 'reckless character' that I both dressed as, and, I'll admit, acted like.
Him and Ryo laughed at everyone who said that I was a dangerous thug. He said that cigarettes and rock music didn't make a gangster, but if I robbed a bank to the tune of My Chemical Romance, he'd let everyone know.
Speaking of which....
"Hey Almond, a concert is going on Friday night. Want to come?" I half begged. "It's Set it Off."
"Aren't they too pop for you?" He mocked, not looking up. I gasped, offended.
"Never insult the beautiful art that comes out of Cody Carson's mouth." I said, absolutely serious.
"Fine, I'll come," Almon sighed. "But I'm not getting drunk."
"You need to live a little." I sighed, collapsing on my bed and staring at the ceiling.
"By 'live a little', you mean cut about ten years off your lifespan?" Almon snorted. "No thank you. I think life suits me better."
"But I'm goth." I smirked. "Death suits me better."
"You remind me of my brother." He sighed, shaking his head. Then, for the first time since my dramatic escape from Ryo's wrath, his head snapped up like he remembered something important. "Speaking of which, he's coming over to visit."
"Your brother?" I asked. Almon had only mentioned his brother a few times, only in passong conversation. I didn't know if he was older or younger, what he did, or anything besides the fact that he was Almon's brother.
"Yeah. You know, the idiot who has the same mother and father as me?" Almon explained. "He's coming to visit."
"Please don't tell me he's staying with us."
"No, he knows I would never share a room with him." Almon assured. "Anyways, he doesn't like me that much."
"When's he coming down?"
Almon checked his watch. "In an hour. I'm picking him up from the airport."
"And you just now tell me?"
"It slipped my mind." Almon shrugged. "Anyways, you've been wearing the same shirt for no less than three days. If you want to meet my brother, change your outfit."
"Only you would care." I sighed, but complied. I only had about three clean shirts left since I never cleaned my laundry until Almon made me, saying he hated the smell. I quickly changed, grabbing whatever clothes were clean.
"Usually people go for good first impressions." Almon sighed, shaking his head. I was wearing ripped jeans, not noticeably skinny but not baggy, a band shirt, and a leather jacket. I know, very stereotypical of me. At least I wasn't wearing eyeliner!
"My personality is impression enough," I waved off. "Wanna go to the cafe until we need to leave for the airport?"
"Sure." He sighed. "I'd invite Ryo, but I don't want my outfit covered in blood."
"Nah, she loves me!" I grinned. "Now, let's embark on a journey to the palace of food!"
