If you don't like your life, then you should go and change it

Vacation, Dirty Heads

Almon's POV

The second Roman closed the door behind him, I turned to Dimitri.

"I lied to Roman about being busy on the night of the concert and ditched him to go on a date." I spoke in one quick breath, my words barely discernible.

Dimitri, however, was talented in the ways of fast words. His eyes darkened.

"You what?" He growled, although it was obvious he understood what I had said. He was just giving me a chance to change what I said. I took a deep breath and opened my mouth.

"No." Dimitri interrupted, holding up his hands. "Don't speak. Answer me this- why the hell did you not tell him?"

"I didn't want to make him mad!" I attempted to defend myself. "But I really wanted to see her."

"You couldn't have rescheduled your date for the next day?" Dimitri challenged. "Said, 'Hey, sorry, but I'm busy?' No, let's ditch Roman for some girl that you haven't even mentioned before this."

"I didn't want to introduce her if the relationship ended up going south!"

"So you ditched your roommate for a girl that you don't even know if you're going to have a steady relationship with?"

"You're lecturing me about relationships?" I shouted, letting my anger get the best of me. The second I said it, I wished I could take it back.

Dimitri looked as if I had slapped him, a mix of hurt and anger on his face. He tensed as if he was about to slap me, but closed his eyes. He didn't say anything, but his lips were moving.

"I'm sorry, Di, I didn't mean to-" I finally attempted, but he cut me off.

"It's fine." He sighed. "I should be getting over it, anyways. I just don't want you to put all your time into her, and then if she's not who you think she is...."

He trailed off, but I got his point. Dimitri was rarely so quiet, and when he was, we were usually talking about the same thing.

"Please apologize to Roman." Dimitri begged, sighing. "I don't like you lying to people. Heck, I don't like lying to people."

"What if he gets mad at me?" I asked. He gave me a pointed look. "You're right, I probably deserve it."

I collapsed on my bed, and Dimitri sat next to me. I caught sight of his hand, wrapped in bandages. "What happened?" I asked, motioning to it.

"Punched a wall." He replied nonchalantly, as if it was as normal as grabbing a cup of tea. "A really hard wall."

"Why the hell?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. He didn't meet my eyes, and I remembered why he was hear.

"I need to get away." He had whispered when he first got into the car. "I keep on seeing him everywhere."

"I went to visit him." Dimitri finally admitted. I shot up.

"Why didn't you tell me?" I cried. "Why did you even go in the first place? Is that why you were gone Thursday? I could've gone with you, or at least talked to you about it-"

"No," Dimitri interrupted. "I needed to see him again, prove to myself that I could do it. And anyways, that was only half the day."

"So where were you the rest of the time?"

Dimitri paused, silent, and I knew I wouldn't be getting an answer. Secrets and lies had always been his game growing up, and even if he didn't want to continue that was, it was a part of my brother.

"Almon, about... him." Dimitri began hesitantly. Almon knew that the simple name of Dimitri's tormentor brought up painful memories. "He's-"

Dimitri was cut off by the door opening. Roman walked in, looking refreshed and energetic. Dimitri quickly stood up, mumbled something about grabbing a drink, and quickly left the room.

He pushed past Roman and scampered down the hallway, the edges of his now buttoned dress shirt fluttered like dove wings.

"What happened?" He asked, looking both hurt and concerned.

"He's just upset." I sighed, rubbing the back of my neck.

"So are you." Roman noted. "What's wrong?"

I took a deep breath, opened my mouth, and closed it again. Then I took another deep breath.

"I'm sorry, Roman." I finally managed. "Last night, I wasn't out helping a friend. Someone else invited me out, and I didn't want to turn them down."

Roman was silent, but he didn't look too mad. He just looked... a little sad.

"If you had told me, it would've been fine." He finally sighed. "We could've worked something out."

"I just... I don't know." I admitted. "I really wanted to see her, and I freaked out, so I lied..."

"Well, maybe you should introduce us." Roman suggested. "It would make communication a lot easier."

I smiled. "Sure. I mean, she is my girlfriend, so-"

"You have a girlfriend?" He cried out, shocked. "And you didn't think to mention it?"

I scratched the back of my neck. "Uh... yeah?"

"We are meeting as soon as humanly possible." Roman demanded. "I'm trusting you to arrange something, and that's how you'll make up the concert for me."

"Okay, tomorrow?" I suggested, pulling out my phone. "I think she's busy today."

"Tomorrow it is!" Roman cheered, immediately regaining his happy demeanor. "Now, I have to go find your brother. Wish me luck!"

I laughed to myself, watching him leave. "Good luck." I chuckled.
