L x Reader x Matsuda

L's POV:

"Shut up Matsuda!" yelled Mogi. Matsuda was being an idiot again, I really didn't understand why he bothered joining the task force. He didn't help with anything; all he did was joke around. He was so annoying. I needed get rid of him if only for a few minutes. "What am I supposed to do then?" Matsuda whined "Can't I help with anything?" He continued whining. I sighed. What an idiot.

"Matsuda, do you want to be useful?" I asked.

"Yes!"

"Go make me a coffee."

His face dropped. "Is that all?" he asked. "I meant to help you with the investigation."

"I thought you wanted to be useful?"

"Yeah but-"

"Then go get me a coffee" Matsuda seemed fed up with arguing and turned to go downstairs. At least that would get rid of him for a while so I could concentrate on the case. Honestly, he could be such a pain. I continued searching the police files. The alarm buzzed which meant someone needed to come in. It was probably Misa coming to see Light again. "Light, who is it?" I asked the boy sat next to me. The boy I suspected was Kira.

"It's Y/N" he replied. Oh, yes Y/N. She must be here because she has information. Y/N was one of my co workers trying to help solve the Kira case. I saw her waiting by the door on the ground floor through the camera.

"Matsuda, go downstairs and bring her up if you want to be useful" Light said. Matsuda smiled. He seemed to enjoy spending time with Y/N, they were always together. If they weren't here then they would be shopping together, or at the park or at the coffee shop. They were almost like boyfriend and girlfriend. I've been trying to get rid of Matsuda all morning, but now, more than anything, I wanted him to stay up here where I knew he wasn't with Y/N. When I see them together I feel something. It is an emotion I have never felt before. Jealousy. But why would I be jealous of that idiot? Am I in love? With Y/N?

Y/N's POV:

You waited near the door for someone to come let you in. It was raining outside and your hair was soaking wet. You just wanted to get inside to dry off. "Y/N!" you heard Matsuda shout from the elevator. You smiled at the sight of your best friend so excited to see you. "Hey Matsuda!" You smiled as he gave you a big hug. After a few seconds he pulled away and smiled. "So how have you been lately? I haven't spoken to you since last weekend!" He asked. You walked in to the elevator together.

"I've been great!" You replied. "I found out some new information about Kira."

"Great, we can tell L when we get inside" he said. The elevator went up and the two of you stood in silence for a while. Why did L insist on working on the 21st floor? You didn't like heights, they had scared you since you were little. The bell ringed signaling you had reached the 21st floor. The door opened. "After you." said Matsuda. You stepped into the room. "They're here L" you heard Light say. You took the seat opposite L.

"What is it Y/N?" L asked in his usual monotone voice. He turned round in his chair to face you. You suddenly felt nervous and you began to stutter.

"Um, I have gained valuable information regarding the, um, Kira case and-" You saw the corner of L's mouth turn upwards into a smile. You had never seen the detective smile, not once. It was actually quite cute. You shook your head. You had some strange thoughts sometimes. L's gaze never left yours and you were 99% sure you were blushing. He just kept smiling at you and it made you wonder what was so damn amusing to him.

"Y/N, there is really no need to be so nervous around me. Don't worry I don't bite" L said with a smile. If you weren't blushing before then you were certainly blushing now. You couldn't understand why. Did you like him? You looked around the room and realised that everyone was staring at you. "So, as I was saying-" You tried to continue but kept getting distracted by L's eyes staring at your face. You felt a little self-conscious as you felt his eyes drill into yours. After you had finished he thanked you for the information and let everyone go home for the day. As you were picking up your bag Matsuda came up behind you. "Hey Y/N do you want to come with me to go get something to eat?" he asked. You smiled.

"Sure!" you smiled. As you walked off with Matsuda, you could have sworn you saw L frown a little.

L's POV:

As I watched Y/N walk off with Matsuda I felt my heart sink a little. I was in love with her, a simple co worker. I had no clue what to do. I was almost certain she was with Matsuda, she loved him, she could never love someone like me. Matsuda was young, good-looking, friendly and fun. He is pretty much the opposite of me. No, she could never love me. I didn't know what to do with my feelings: should I tell her and risk getting rejected? Or should I keep these feelings bottled up inside and silently suffer watching her fall in love with Matsuda? All my life I was trained to be this emotionless genius, who only cares about bringing justice to criminals. Who doesn't feel. Who doesn't love. I couldn't do it any longer. I wanted to feel, to live and to love. I decided I would confess tomorrow, no matter what the outcome.

Matsuda's POV:

I walked along the street with Y/N while we chattered excitedly about the most random stuff. When I was with her I was never sad. She cheered me up even in the darkest of times. I opened the door for her and we entered the diner. We found a table to sit at and sat down. Y/N picked up her menu and read through it. "So, what do you want?" I asked with a smile. "You can have anything- my treat." She smiled at me.

"I really don't know. There's so much to choose from!" she exclaimed.

I laughed. She could be so cute when she was like this. I didn't want to admit it but I was starting to get attracted to her. When I saw her blushing when L spoke to her, I don't know why, but I started to feels little jealous. I was definitely developing feelings for her.  She put her menu down and looked up. "I think I've decided, I'll have F/F please!" she said. I nodded and called over a waitress and placed our order. We talked until our food came, then we are in silence for a while. Afterwards she said "Thanks Matsuda! You're the best!" She hugged me and then kissed me on the cheek. Somehow I wasn't blushing. After we parted ways I began walking home. I touched my cheek where she kissed me. I really did have feelings for her. And I was going to confess to her. Tomorrow.
