Knock knock! "Mum there's someone at the door!" I shouted from my room. It is day two, and 10am in the morning. The day of unpacking. Jordan’s eyes had made an impression on me so deep, I couldn’t sleep the whole night. How did I actually managed to keep silent the previous day? For some reason, I just couldn’t figure out why. Back in Nebraska, I had many friends, I met many people. Mom even trained me, making me promise to say at least a ‘hi’ to every person I meet because she thought it would be polite. Moving to Nebraska was hard for me. I had to leave all my friends, all my neighbors, I am all alone again. What’s my first impression of Jordan you may ask? She seems cool....
I heard the door open, Mom saying thank you excitedly, Mom shouting from the door, "Come on in!" Mum please don't tell me it's Jordan..... I thought. I crept out slowly from my room towards the staircase, just like I always would whenever someone "unknown" is at the door. As I approached the staircase, the sound of the front door closing and footsteps going into the kitchen led me to believe that someone was indeed in my house, and knowing that no one else knew us, I knew that it has got to be……
"Hunter! Come on down! Jordan's here with chicken pie!" I walked down the steps really slowly, feeling each part of my leg muscle working antagonistically just to get me moving. As I made my way down each step, my heart started to beat faster and faster. My mind flooded with mixed emotions, what my body is feeling now is beyond explainable. Get a mixing bowl, throw in a whole chunk load of nervousness, a little bit of anxiousness and a pinch of happiness. What was I supposed to be feeling right now?
When I reached the bottom of the steps, I am immediately faced by Jordan and my Mom. "So aren't you going to say thank you or even introduce yourself to this nice lady in front of you, who had by the way brought us some delicious Chicken pie?" I mouthed a small Thank You but just could not gather the voice to introduce myself. If I ever speak again, you’d better put your mouth to good use! That’s probably what my mom is thinking right now. What is happening to me?
Both Mom and Jordan stood in front of me. Stop looking at me…… just take her away mom please. I thought. However, no matter how hard I tried to look away, I could feel the pressure of their gaze. I had to do something, I had to introduce myself. If I don’t, it will get really awkward, plus my mom would probably give me a scolding if I don’t tell Jordan my name. Its basic manners after all.
"Okay, my name is... Hunter.” I thought I had finally done the impossible but I said it so softly that Jordan had to lean in a little to hear me clearly. She took a moment to ponder about what I just said, when my mom said," For God's sake, Hunter, can you speak a little louder next time? And when are you going to start talking again? “I shrugged. Jordan giggled a little. Why did she laugh? Were my actions weird or something? Am I weird? What happened next made me blush for the first time ever. Jordan took me hand and started to shake it." Nice to meet you, Hunter! I heard you will be staying her for 5 days!” Her smile was so wide that I could see all her teeth. I managed a weak smile but in my mind I still had one question left unanswered. Who is she? I cannot wait to find out.
