“So….how’s life?” I asked hesitantly. He stayed silent. “Umm…”
Suddenly, he chuckled. I froze. “I’m fine, thank you, it just feels… weird… being in a girl’s room… just the two of us”
“You? You feel weird? I’m the host. If you feel weird, how do you think I feel?” I gave him a little smile, and continued. “Well, it’s my first time having a boy over.”
“It’s my first time being a girl’s room.” We both paused and averted our eyes. There it was again, the unbearable silence between us.
He looks out the window. “So, wonderful weather we’re having.”
“I guess……” I look out the window too. The cold circled the glass on the window with tiny spirals of frost, the soft glow of the lamp post and the soothing tones of moonlight shined under the darkened and barren streets.
“You know, they say it’s going to snow even more tomorrow” He said. He turned his body so that it now faces me.
“Oh really?” I looked down at my fingers as I replied him.
“Why? You like the snow?”
“I LOVE the snow!” I shouted at him enthusiastically, without any realization that I have started jumping up and down. He stared blankly at me, eyes wide open.
“Follow me downstairs, I wanna show you something right outside your house.” He said as he directed me out the door and down the stairs. The look on his face puzzled me, what is going on? I grabbed by winter coat and followed him down. He unlocked the latch of the front door, and we walked onto the now snowy lawn.
“Okay what is it?” I asked as I looked around trying to figure out what was going on. Meanwhile he walked a few paces in front of me, bent down and started to… dig? “Umm… why are you…”
Before I could finish my sentence, something hit me on the abdomen. Something soft and fluffy. “Did you just throw a snowball at me?” I looked at him surprised.
“Well you did say… ” Before he could complete his sentence, I grabbed a handful of snow, balled down up and threw it at Hunter, I don’t care where it hits as long as it hits him. Just like that, we started throwing snow balls at each other, running away from each other, hiding from each other. Our laughter filled the air around us. The best snowball I ever had.
I wanted to freeze time so badly, to capture the moment. However I know that all I am getting is one precious memory, a reminiscence of an experience so rare that not everyone can get to go through in one life alone. Time obviously did past faster that night, it went by so fast, too fast. Our moms obviously heard us shouting outside, and thus they naturally had to come out to see what was going on, and also to pull us in for dinner. The look on their faces when they found us is priceless…
We got to know each other that night, even before the fun started. We felt like we knew each other already. Like we have met in our past life or something. The chemistry between us is unmistakable, like two puzzle pieces coming together. Had we not met here, I am sure we are bound to meet each other somewhere else. We sat around the table, I looked at Hunter, he smiled, and I smiled back. Our smiles are genuine, and sincere, as if saying thank you for the night. We sat next to each other, our clothes a little wet from the snow. Snow was still falling, drifting along the surface of the window.
As we sat under the soft warm glow of the kitchen ceiling light, we talked, we played, and we laughed.
