The next morning I woke up early, way earlier than I normally do. I am not a morning person; I normally sleep until 9 or 10, sometimes even 11. I woke up at 7, and decided to take a shower. As I washed my hair, I couldn't help but start singing one of my favorite songs, Halluejah.

**I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Your faith was strong but you needed proof

You saw her bathing on the roof

Her beauty in the moonlight overthrew you

She tied you to a kitchen chair

She broke your throne, and she cut your hair

And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Baby I have been here before

I know this room, I've walked this floor

I used to live alone before I knew you.

I've seen your flag on the marble arch

Love is not a victory march

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

There was a time when you let me know

What's really going on below

But now you never show it to me, do you?

And remember when I moved in you

The holy dove was moving too

And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Maybe there's a God above

But all I've ever learned from love

Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you

It's not a cry you can hear at night

It's not somebody who has seen the light

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Hallelujah**

As the last Hallelujah left my mouth I stepped out of the shower. I felt great; I always felt great after listening or singing that song. I smiled brightly as I got dressed, whistling the Andy Griffith's show theme song. I can not wait to see my Little Drummer Boy!

I texted Rico and told him to meet me at the Dairy Queen in town for ice cream. I ordered a carmel sundae and sat in one of the booths with my MP3 player, blasting Tenth Avenue North in my ears. I listened to all types of music, but TAN was one of my favorite bands. I had my eyes closed, listening to their song, You Are More, when a hand suddenly grabbed my shoulder, making me yelp. I turned to glare at whoever dared disturb me.

Rico stared back at me, grin plastered across his face, mint chocolate chip Blizzard in his hand. I ripped my earbuds out, and growled at him. He sat down across from me, clearly pleased with pissing me off.

"What in the damn hell was that for?" I barked, angrily taking another bite of my sundae. I was trying to stop cussing, I really was; but old habits die hard. I started when I was in 7th grade, I was now in 10th, it was still hard for me. Rico laughed at me before say that it was just for laughs.

We finished our ice cream and walked back to his house, since he only lived two minutes from Dairy Queen, while I lived seven minutes if I'm walking fast. We finally got to his house and the minute I walked through the door, Victoria attacked me. As much as I loved Rico's baby sister, it was still too early for little kids. She soon roped us both of us into watching Finding Nemo with her.

Half-way through the movie, my phone buzzed. Rico looked at me funny as I grabbed my phone. Minny and Blair knew it was a movie day at the Hernandez's, at they wouldn't bother me. I looked at the Caller-ID. It was my "friend", Freddy. How the hell he got my number, I still don't know. I deleted the message without reading it.

"Who was it? Blair and Minny know it's movie day, they wouldn't text you unless it was important," Rico asked, watching his little sister get up to get something from her room.

I growled, "My favorite jackass. Freddy the Freaky Creeper." Rico nodded his head, he understood. He hated how Freddy treated me, like I was a plaything and not a person. My phone buzzed again. I growled; this better not be Freddy again.

It wasn't. It was another one of my guy friends, Henry. We had a flirting thing going on, but I wasn't sure if he was serious. We had dated once in 8th grade, but I soon realized he was just using me. I checked the message.

"Hey Dare, wanna go to a movie Monday with me?"

I blushed deep red and Rico took my phone. He read the message, and handed my phone back to me with a blank face. He looked unbothered by it, but I could see an emotion playing in his eyes, one I didn't recoginize. I was almost too caught up in his gaze to catch what he said next.

"Go. Accept it. He likes you. A lot. One date won't do any harm," he said in a dead-pan voice before turning back to the movie. I stared at him. He never acted like THIS when a guy asked me out. Never. I was a bit freaked out by it, but I didn't mention it.

We sat in silence for a long time just watching movies. I couldn't help but wish this was a date, but I knew it was just best friends hanging out, watching movies. When the clock chimed 7, I told Rico goodbye and started to leave. He grabbed my arm and swung me around. My heart started pumping; what was he doing?

"Be careful Monday, okay? I don't want Henry to hurt you like he did in 8th grade. I love you Dare. You're my sister, I don't want you hurt," Rico said in a soft, caring voice. He hugged me and then let me leave.

As I walked home all I could think about was my favorite line in Hallelujah.

**Maybe there's a God above

But all I've ever learned from love

Was how to shoot at someone who outdrew you

It's not a cry you can hear at night

It's not somebody who has seen the light

It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah**

Indeed, this was a broken Hallelujah. MY broken Hallelujah. He loved me. But not the way I loved him.
