-The next morning-

As dawn approached, the pony crowd began to gather around the square in Canterlot to witness the execution of Applejack who was tied to a wooden pole surrounded by a pile of hay on a platform. As a group of ponies played the drums, Discord looked inside the scroll he was holding, and said "The prisoner Applejack has been found guilty of the crime of dark magic. The sentence: Death!" The crowd protested in anger as they pushed against the pony soldiers as one of the ponies said "She did nothing wrong!" "She is innocent!" Another pony cried out in anger as the pony executioner placed more hay in front of Applejack. Trixie, AJ, Apple Bloom, and the other earth ponies watched the scene from the cages they were trapped in. AJ tried to bust the cage open, but it was no use. Fluttershy opened the church door, and gasped in shock and horror at the scene. She tried to put a stop to it, but two pony soldiers blocked her. The pony executioner gave Discord a lit torch, and he went up to Applejack. He leaned in front of her face as he said "The time has come, earth pony. You stand upon the brink of the abyss. Yet even now, it is not too late. I can save you from the flames of this world, and the next. Choose me or the fire."

Applejack spitted in Discord's face, and said "Ah rather be a charcoaled apple than be your apple, Discord!" Discord growled in anger as he looked at the pony crowd, and said "The earth pony Applejack has refused to recant. This evil pony witch has put the soul of every citizen of Equestria in awful jeopardy." High in the bell tower, Spike was all chained up to keep him from leaving. He looked at the ground while feeling sad and ashamed as Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Twilight Sparkle pulled on the chains with all their might. "Come on, Spike! Snap out of it!" Pinkie Pie said. "Your friends are down there, darling!" Rairty said. "It's all my fault." Spike said sadly. "You gotta break these chains!" Twilight Sparkle said. "I can't." Spike said. "I tried. What difference would it make, anyway?" "But you can't let Discord win!" Rarity said. "He already has." Spike said. "So, you're giving up?" Pinkie Pie asked. "That's it?!" "These chains aren't what's holding you back, Spike." Twilight Sparkle said. "Leave me alone." Spike said. Pinkie Pie, Rarity, and Twilight Sparkle backed away, and as they moved up front to get a good look of the execution, Pinkie Pie said "Okay. Okay, Spike, we'll leave you alone." "After all, we're only made of stone." Rarity said as she and Pinkie Pie turned to stone. "We just thought maybe you were made of something stronger." Twilight Sparkle said as she turned to stone.

Spike then looked up, and looked down at the execution scene as Discord said "For justice, for Equestria, and for her own salvation! It is my sacred duty to send her back where she belongs!" He lit the hay on fire, and Applejack immedately held her breath out of fear. "NO!" Spike cried out as he began pulling on the chains, making the bells ring in the process. As he pulled on the chains, he grew larger and larger. Down below, Applejack couldn't hold her breath any longer, and she began coughing as Discord smirked sinisterly. In the bell tower, Spike had already turned into a fully grown dragon, and he pulled on the chains super hard, freeing himself, and ripping out the pillars of stone in the process. He let out a might roar as he flew out of the church, and dove down to the platform. He then freed an unconscious Applejack from the rope she was tied to. A trio of pony soldiers tried to attack Spike, but he used his large tail to swing at them, scaring them off in the process. He then flew away from the platform as Discord growled in anger, and said "Spike!" AJ, Apple Bloom, Trixie, and the other earth ponies smiled as Spike flew up to the giant stained glass window, and landed on the railing. He then held up Applejack's body high above his head, and the crowd began cheering for him as he said "Sanctuary! Sanctuary! Sanctuary!"
