Raon idly kicked a pebble off of the sidewalk and into the middle of the road where a car ran over it. As she gazed at the rock, she wished she could be as resilient as that little stone.

She sighed as she replayed the recent memory of her latest failed audition, this time at Starship Entertainment. She pondered about where the audition possibly could've gone wrong, but to no avail. She hit every beat during her dance audition and hit every high note with perfect pitch.

It all boiled down to one thing: Raon's severe case of scoliosis.

Ever since she could talk she was singing. She sang when she was happy, she sang when she was sad; nothing brought her more comfort than singing. Singing was her passion and she was sure she could make it in the music industry.

When diagnosed with scoliosis at the age of six, Raon did not see any problem with her condition. Sure, it would make some things more difficult for her, but she had no idea of the kinds of judgments the diagnosis would bring upon her.

As her condition developed, Raon's shoulders became uneven making it obvious that she had scoliosis. Raon wasn't particularly bothered by it until she heard some of her classmates making fun of her for it. That, on top of the well known fact that Raon's family was extremely poor, made her the freak show of the school that people would gawk at.

Raon sighed as she remembered the difficulties of her childhood and continued walking with her head down. She always tried not to let the negative comments affect her mindset, but no one is perfect and today was already a bad day. Maybe the judges were right; maybe she'd never make it as an idol.

As Raon walked, the image of  her mother's smiling face appeared in her mind. Her mother had spent all of their savings to fly to Seoul so that she could pursue her dream of singing. If Raon didn't find an agency that would take her, all of her mother's efforts would go to waste. There was no way she could let that happen.

Raon stopped and took a deep breath to collect her thoughts. Just because Cube and Starship didn't want her didn't mean that she didn't have a chance. There were plenty of agencies in South Korea who might accept her. She looked up with a newfound determination. Lee Raon would not- no, she could not fail.

As this thought passed through her mind, a car passed by on the street and splashed gutter water all over her.

Well, isn't this just lovely, Raon thought to herself bitterly. Not only was she upset, she was now upset and covered in dirty water.

As she tried to wipe some of the water off of her face and clothes, she looked at her surroundings. She tried to find something she recognized; a sign, a street name, anything really, but she didn't recognize any of the buildings around her. Raon began feeling slightly nervous because she was new to this area of Seoul and had no idea how to get back to her hotel. Not only that, it was starting to get pretty dark out and she didn't want to stay on the street longer than she needed to. She took out her phone to try and look up directions, but it died the moment she took it out. Then she checked her wallet to see if she had money to pay for a taxi, but her wallet was empty except for a crumpled gum wrapper. Raon sighed and wondered just how much worse this day could get.
