Kumi looked up at the sign reading "BigHit Entertainment" with bright, hopeful eyes. She clutched her bag to her chest as she thought about how amazing it was that she was actually here. If someone had told her two years ago that she would be auditioning for BigHit she would've laughed in their face.
But a lot has changed with Kumi since then. Her anxiety is finally fading away and she hasn't had a panic attack in over a year. She gained some confidence in her dancing and she found a passion for rapping after her friend introduced her to it. Kumi wanted to believe she was good, but she feared that others would tell her she was awful so she never shared her talent with anyone. That all changed one day when Kumi's sister walked into her room to find her singing and rapping along to one of her favorite songs. Kumi's sister thought she was amazing and encouraged her to audition for BigHit since auditions were coming up.
Kumi couldn't help remember how harshly she was rejected 11 years ago when she auditioned to be a child model at JYP. Even though Kumi was hesitant about the idea, her sister and the rest of her family persistently encouraged her to go for it. Although Kumi was scared of failure, if she didn't at least try she would never know what might've happened.
Kumi took a deep breath and entered the building and got in the extremely long line filled with others who were auditioning. She immediately became nervous. It felt like everyone there had a friend or at least someone they knew. Kumi wished she knew someone that could've auditioned with her. As the nerves started to set in, Kumi decided that she just couldn't do this today. She turned to go back out the door but there was already a large crowd of people behind her blocking her way. She sighed; she didn't want to have to make her way through that crowd. Being near lots of people was not her favorite thing in the world.
Kumi reluctantly turned back around and accepted her fate: for better or for worse, she was about to audition for BigHit Entertainment.

As Kumi finished the rap segment of her audition, she felt as giddy as a little kid on Christmas morning. She couldn't tell what the judges thought of her performance, seeing as they were as emotionless as stones, but in her opinion she totally nailed it. Now, it was time for the dancing section. Kumi was a 100% self-taught dancer. The only "lessons" she had ever had were from watching kpop dance tutorials on youtube. She wasn't as confident in her dancing as she was in her rapping, to say the least.
Kumi gave a small nod to the man who was controlling the speakers and her audition song came on. She took a few deep breaths to calm herself and before she knew it, she was almost done with her routine. She was just about to hit her ending pose when her shoelace came untied and she tripped over it, falling flat on her face at the exact moment the final beat hit. A shot of pain went through Kumi's nose, but it was not the source of her tears. As she looked up, she saw the judges failing to hold back their laughter. She felt one, two, three tears fall down her cheeks as she picked herself up from the floor, her face flushed from embarrassment.
As the judges let their laughter freely flow out of them, Kumi gave a small bow and hurried out of the room. She was about to turn to go out the main entrance but then she remembered that there were a lot of people still out there. She couldn't bear to face them; she couldn't bear to face anyone right now. She turned to go out a different exit and began running. She had to get out of here. Her breaths became shallow and her heart began pounding frantically. She felt as if her heart was going to burst from beating so fast. She vaguely heard someone yelling at her to wait, but soon enough her blood rushing in her ears became the only thing she could hear. The room began to spin and the only thought on her mind was 'Get out'. She had to get away from this place; anywhere but here.
Kumi wasn't sure how long she had been running, but she found herself at the beach where her mom used to take her to help her calm down after her panic attacks. She sat down at a nearby bench, pulled her knees up to her chest, and watched the sunset over the ocean. She took slow, deep breaths as she watched the orange and pink colors dance over the soft waves of the water as they gently rolled onto the shore. Suddenly, a voice behind Kumi spoke up.
"Hey... I saw you running earlier... Are you okay?" the stranger said as he approached Kumi. In response, she hugged her knees tighter and rested her head on them as she continued to stare at the ocean, a light ocean breeze blowing some of her hair in her face.
"I... I heard you fell at the BigHit audition and the judges laughed at you... I'm so sorry that you had to go through that," the stranger continued. "Um, do you mind if I sit with you?"
Kumi turned and took another look at the boy. He had brown hair and looked like he was much younger than she was. She sighed, knowing that it was better to have company when she had just had a panic attack. She gave him a small nod and he took a seat at the other end of the bench.
"I'm Jungkook, by the way. What's your name?"

It had been two years since the day Kumi auditioned for BigHit. Her original plan had been to quit, but Jungkook talked her out of it. He told her that she could do anything if she wanted it bad enough. He'd even offered to give her dance lesson when his busy trainee schedule allowed for it. Over these past two years, Kumi and Jungkook had become close friends.
Today, BigHit was holding an audition for new trainees. Kumi was determined to not let this opportunity pass her by again.
